unexpected failure....

I was just playing with a database connection and had made up a form to collect some data, which calls a page giving feedback and at the same time the ZSQL method to do the actual processing. This stuff was successful the first few times, but all of a sudden Zope restarts. I get a "Page cannot be displayed" error. Checking the database I see that the record has not been added. The ZServer log (var/Z2.log) doesn't show anything about it. Even when i just leave out all fields that don't require input data I still get the error. The only fields I am passing, apart from empty strings, are two integer values. :( Jens Vagelpohl

security for nobody

Friends of Zope, I am a Zope newbie who wishes to allow access only to a limited number of users (10) on a MYSQL database in Zope. The users are web novices and not very technical savy. The way I setup Zope is that the user nobody comes in a web server using the approach: htttp:\1526.125.145:9673\directory1\index.html How can I password the *database* directory from casual browsers? I would like a password prompt appear and then have them log in. Has anyone done this and How did you do it?

1. Have you ever used Gadfly? If so, please describe in 30 words, what you used it for. Yes. We are currently developing a prototype of a web application with modest db requirements in Zope. For various reasons it became necessary to move it from Linux to a Windows NT box. I didn't have a database that would work under NT. Initially I was afraid Gadfly wouldn't cut it, but in fact I got the application ported in about half an hour using Gadfly. Since then I have found it to be an extremely useful tool for playing with SQL in Python with Zope. (Sorry for exceeding the 30 word limit.) 2. Did you find it useful? Yes. However, I would find it more useful if Zope included 1) the current release of Gadfly with support for metadata queries 2) support for the server version of Gadfly - Currently I have to employ a hack in my external methods to get access to the open connection Zope is using. Otherwise I can update the disk tables from Python methods, but not the tables Zope is using in core. 3. Was the fact that it was included important to you? I think it is useful to have some kind of simple SQL engine included with Zope. 4. Do you believe we should continue to include Gadfly in Zope? Yes. 5. Do you believe we should move Gadfly to an add-on distribution? No.

zope for multi-language site?

Just oloking at Zope for the first time and am thinking it is *Dope* for a four-tiered web site design team (Database programmer, HTML coder, graphic designer, content manager). The site I am involved with producing will be in English first, but will probably need to have multi-lingual support in the near future. Does anyone have any input on how one would manage that efficiently? Would it be possible to write the HTML and SQL once and just change the content and database-sources through a single *select_language* variable? Any direction greatly appreciated. Info about a Z Gadfly Database in a DTML doc

Hello zopers, I'm new in Zope, and i can't deal with that : how can i reach informations about tables from a Z Gadfly Database Connection? For example, using the 'Sample Gadfly script' from a Zope How-to, how can i get the fact that the 'Zopadelic' base has one table, 'zopista', which has 2 columns (col_a and col_b) from the int type ? Of course i can get that info with the browse tab, but my need is to get that from a DTML document (which will be the beginning of a little web interface for Gadfly i hope.) I read the docs and didn't find the answer, do i have to code a external method? Hope this is clear, i'm not sure of my english ;) Guillaume Gautier

Strange result

Hi, With this little program I can store values from a form to properties of a new folder. The problem is that only 'firstname' and 'date' are stored :) for each new folder !!
