I have posted a modification to Zope at the url below, which add wide string support to ZPublisher, property pages, and property sheets. http://www.zope.org/Members/htrd/wstring At the moment it is a little limited (supporting only utf-8 and latin-1) but it is extensible, and sufficient as a proof of concept. Fitting Zope into publishing process

Hey all, I was wondering how everyone handles integrating Zope into their current design/preview/publish process. Particuarly in mixed environments (some stuff in Zope, some stuff outside - on the same site). I ask because I'm currently trying to figure out a better process for my company. We have a decent system for non-Zope stuff that we need to fit Zope into. Here's how we handle the non-Zope stuff: Every site we do has 3 incarnation: 1. Prototype: experimentation and design which when stablized gets pushed to... 2. Preview: run link checkers, content overview, and viable by client for design approval which when stablized gets pushed to... 3. The live site: public The 'pushing' in all stages is done via rsync (*nix to *nix). None of our sites (at least in the near future) will exist entirely inside Zope, but many have Zope componenets. So I've been delegated the task of integrating Zope with our current process (though the current system could be adjusted...). I can't be the only one facing this sort of situation. How do you deal with it in your organization? Zap logs

FYI... The Zap logs come with some information in them both the error log and the access log. It confused me for a minute (or so). That aside, i cannot get Zap to log to the access log. I get messages in the error log when the server restarts, etc. but nothing shows up in the zap access log? Any ideas. It looks to be set okay in the zap.conf file. Thanks, Ron...

Acquisition Question

When an object is acquired, particularly something like a DTMLMethod, does the acquired object have knowledge about where it was defined? For example, suppose FolderA defines a method called 'foo'. A method in FolderB references 'foo' but FolderB does not define foo. The method might be acquired by a URL like this: /FolderA/FolderB/someMethodWhichReferencesFoo. Is there some way that the code in 'foo' would know that it was the foo which belonged to FolderA (as opposed to some other foo which might belong to some other object)? Thanks. James W. Hi John, No, you're not alone in your search for "the way" to mesh Zope with a "traditional" (brain dead?) Web site. This is exactly where I'm at, and though I'd love to see my team on a path to total Zope-dom, it's not realistic. I'm looking at several tools that other Zopephiles have put together to see how best to leverage what Zope doesn't control, meanwhile showcasing as many flashy features that Zope can add along the way. My approach, which is very much a process of discovery, is to create a Web Forms based Work Flow Application, with URLs, user IDs, Roles and Permissions, tucked neatly in a backend RDB, with some pre-commit "buffering" in Zope's internal GadFly implementation. Quickly because I have to leave for the conference in a couple minutes but: - Chris Petrilli gave tutorials about Zope on Monday. - Eric Raymond kicked off the conference with a keynote. - John Udell talked about synergies between XML and Zope.. - A really cool workgroup email/calendarding/contact management system called WorldPilot (which is based on Zope) is going to be open- sourced... - We finally showed off the Portal Toolkit. - Philip Eby talked about object orientation. - Lots of cool stuff... its nice to match faces to names too. Fix for lots of MailHost problems!

I was having lots of trouble with <dtml-sendmail>, and I investigated the code for MailHost. Instead of using the excellent smtplib module (that ships with Python) to send EMail, the folks at DC decided to write their own, using sockets. The attatched patch replaces 100+ lines of socket-based code with 2 line calls to smtplib. I think that this will improve the reliability of MailHost dramatically. As a side effect, the timeout and localhost properties of MailHosts are gone. So far, the basic <dtml-sendmail> tag works perfectly. I guess much of ZOPE track from the 8th IPC have passed. Can anyone out there tell to the list what's going on? just-got-impatient-ly yours LEE Kwan Soo ps. I wish I could have been there, but still I can not go abroad without much legal hassle till March.

Calendar tag 0.9.5 buglet

A very minor misfeature to fix for the next release. line 246 of CalendarTag.py has s = s + '<font color="%(leftfgcolor)s">' which renders literally since leftfgcolor is not in the namespace. It makes all the month names in the year view a ghastly green on my machine. Change it to s = s + '<font color="%s">' % v['leftfgcolor'] and it works better. Interesting that the %(foo)s syntax can hide bugs this way....??
