exporting properties only from the ZODB root folder?

My ZODB root folder contains a number of properties neccessary for products tha I have created to work correctly. Is it possible to export and import these properties to another ZODB without copying all objects in the root and the rest of the hierarchy? Cheers, Darran.

Textareas and SQL (Gadfly)

I've been hitting my head on the wall for hours over this... I've got a large collection of forms feeding into a gadfly database without a problem, and then a few that don't work at all. The only difference I can see is that the ones that fail have <textarea> data and the ones that work don't. I'm getting a: Error Type: LexTokenError Error Value: Lexical token not found near :: "s of Bloodax',\012"*"'A determined c" What I _think_ is happening is that gadfly can't handle carriage returns and line feeds in the string input. (Which is why I was trying things like "virtual" to perhaps get rid of them.) Hmmm... Actually, just tried something else, the below versions actually work, but _only_ if you delete all linefeeds from the textarea and let it wrap all by it's lonesome... Something I can't guarantee my users will do. Is there a way I can remove the carriage returns prior to hitting the sql? I was hoping to use some kind of formatting command rather than trying some weird kind of _.string.sub call. Thanks. ZCommerce solution available soon

I am working for a small company developing a general ECommerce solution in Zope at the moment. We have two full time programmers working on it currently, and a graphic designer for the later stages. We are developing the Catalogue/Cart system as an open source front end for a complete realtime on-line purchasing system specifically designed for Australian businesses. In terms of implementation, we are developing it completely as a Zope Python Product. All purchaseable products are stored in the ZODB, as a hierachy of Products (the items) in Categories (folders). Of course you can have Categories within Categories. Each Category defines what attributes it's Products can have, in a method similar to the property sheets of ZClasses. It also allows for templates for the different views. I won't go into too much detail of the code, as we are intending to release it towards the end of the week. We are endeavouring to make the system completely within Zope, with no external SQL database. This makes it much easier to install the system regardless of platform, and without needing any extra skills. Our company also provides Zope hosting, but we want to make our product useable enough that anyone can install it. To implement a 'shopping cart' system, our cookies currently contain the product IDs, with no session information stored in our database. Our system will be able to be set up in a stand-alone mode in which case it will forward the orders to the merchant, or at a later stage in a realtime mode. In this latter case, it will be connected through our proprietry realtime on-line purchasing system. We were intending to keep the system under wraps until we had a first version to release, but with the increased interest in ZCommerce applications recently we thought we should jump on the bandwagon and tell everyone what we're up to. I gateway them quite successfully using mailman to an exchange public folder which is acting as a nntp news group. Then I have the entire list available as a news group. People don't even need to be subscribed to the mailing list. I imagine setting up a nntp server at zope.org or somewhere else would not be too hard and it would provide a much more manageable interface to the list than digests or individual mails. I'd much prefer a proper threading mailreader to digests anyday!!! The only problem would be putting the previous year or two's mail into the mailing list. I'm sure some python hacker can work that out without too much difficulty. My next step with my lists is to provide a web interface to my outlook public folder. I'm going to do this by hacking worldpilot or notmail and access the list via imap. Has anyone already done this or even a web interface to nntp?

I'm still trying to learn DTML and in particular the various rules for when to quote or not or... I have come across the following syntactic issue which I don't understand. <dtml-var title> puts the title in the document. Fine. <dtml-var "title"> puts the title in the document. <dtml-var id> is equivalent to <dtml-var name=id> <dtml-var "id"> is equivalent to <dtml-var expr="id"> The first is named syntax. What follows the = is an object identifier. The second is expression syntax. What follows the = is a python expression. <dtml-var "id"> returns the object referred to by the id. <dtml-var id> returns the string representation of the object's id. <dtml-var "id()"> returns the string representation of the object's id. Bug in <dtml-comment> ?

I've discovered that the following does not work: <dtml-comment> <dtml-let thisvariable="'some string'"> </dtml-comment> Some text that used to be inside a dtml-let tag . . . <dtml-comment> </dtml-let> </dtml-comment> This is the error I get upon clicking "Change": > Document Template Parse Error > > unexpected end tag, for tag </dtml-comment> What's happening is that *within* the dtml-comment tags, Zope is keeping track of the dtml-let tag, and won't let me continue until I close the dtml-let *inside* of the comment. I would expect that anything inside a <dtml-comment> would be ignored by Zope . . . Is this a bug, or is this an intentional behaviour I don't understand? Thanks, CJ
