Hi, My mistake. I am developing with the PTK Portal code and got WebFolder errors that are due to the content adding restrictions of PTK not the Zope WebDAV. When I try to upload a file to some other folder on my Zope server it works fine. I am using straight Zserver for testing/Dev but expect to deploy on Apache and IIS redirectors. Now that I can "drag & drop" a file from a Windows desktop to a Zope folder I want to trigger a task for the user to make the document indexed in the PTK Zcatalog. I expect that the Zcatalog cannot index binary files like MS Word so I need to wrap the uploaded doc in something that I can set some indexable properties on, right? I am still very new to Zope and do not what is possible but love the hunt. Does anyone know how to index MS Word docs with Zcatalog? Zope 2.1.4 released...

Hi all, Zope 2.1.4 has been released. It can be downloaded from Zope.org at: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.1.4/ This update prevents the REQUEST object from being traversable by web clients. While this feature was useful for debugging, Evan Simpson noted a potential security issue that could allow web authors to play client scripting tricks and make them appear (to the user) to be coming from a Zope site. While we know of no instances of this happening and the actual security of the Zope site's data is not affected by this, we do recommend that you upgrade to 2.1.4 to avoid any problems. Also (I know many of you are already thinking it :), we are working on a way to distribute "patch" releases for things like this to make updates easier. Until then, for those who _really_ just want to patch your installation you can replace the file lib/python/ZPublisher/BaseRequest.py in your installation with the one from the 2.1.4 distribution and restart your Zope instance. Zope and html forms problem

My Zope configuration is (from the Control Panel): Zope version: Zope 2.0.0 (binary release, python 1.5.2, win32-x86) Python version: 1.5.2 (#0, Jul 30 1999, 09:52:18) [MSC 32 bit (Intel)] System Platform: win32 Process ID:(deleted) Running for: 33 days 23 hours 25 min 40 sec I have a page that is created when a user selects his/her name from a drop down select option menu. When the submit button is pressed Zope retrieves fields from a MySQL database and for all records that this user is the responder and has not processed. Now, on the page that is rendered the user may select one record (that has a question) to reply to. Pressing the button for that record, a Zsql method retrieves the necessary fields needed to respond to this question. The form below displays the question and the answer, I also keep the record number (ID) to finish the processing. If I put the word input in front of the line that has <dtml-var answer> as shown below, I lose my columns and rows and get just one row. If I remove the word input from the beginning of that tag I get my columns and rows as defined but no text in the window on the html page although the html source still shows the text for <dtml-var answer>. I need the text to be in that box in case someone wants to append to the original answer. If the text does not show, it over writes the data in the answer field of the database. On the other hand when one row shows I can scroll to the end and append to that answer and it overwrites data in the answer field of the database but It includes the original text so, ultimately I have appended to the answer. Originally, the form method just put the answer in the answer field of the database and the send mail was done separately, now I'm trying to have it set the reply in the answer field and send the email but there are some send mail problems doing them together and I'll submit that in a separate request for help. html stuff up here  <H5>This reply will be added to the database of all questions asked for <H3><I><font color="#FF0000">recipient <dtml-var submitter null="">.</font></I></H3> After pressing the submit button, you will see a conformation page that confirms that your message has been added to the database. Problem packing database

ZODB thrashing: thousands of instances in a single folder

I have created an AcademicPublication product which consists of a folderish container class and then catalog-aware classes for journals, conference proceedings, books, etc. Since we only expect to have a few thousand entries that don't change that frequently, I went for this option over keeping the data in a backend DB accessed via ZSQL. It works beautifully except for one annoyance that transcends my specific example. If someone with management access accidentally "clicks" on the container folder, Zope spends ages building a right-pane management view of all umpteen thousand instances. In the same way that ZCatalog displays only a select number of instances at one time, I wonder if something similar should not be added to the regular folder view? Cheers, Darran.

Reading Cookies from port 80

I am trying to read some cookies that are set from the apache webserver running on port 80 (using php). When I try to read these cookies from within Zope using REQUEST.cookies.keys() the cookies do not show up. The only cookies that show up are ones that specify port 8080 within the cookie file. Is it possible to read the cookies that just have the domain name and not the port number within the cookie file from Zope? Thanks, --James

Help - ZClass instances broken!

In an effort to get a better understanding of how the XMLDocument product worked, I attempted to use the Python debugger to walk through the code. I added an "import pdb" to the build.py file and added a pdb.set_trace() to one of the methods. I started Zope from the command line with a batch file (I'm running under NT). I was able to step into the debugger and look around. The only odd thing was that some of my ZClass instances showed up as broken. I figured this had something to do with the way I started Zope so I ignored it. I then stopped Zope and reverted my build.py file back to its original state. I restarted Zope as a service (the way I usually run it). To my surprise, my ZClass instances (all belonging to the same product) were still broken! I shut everything down and rebooted my machine. I once again went into Zope and still my ZClasses were broken. The product itself looks fine. I can add new instances of my ZClasses without difficulty. However, I can't view existing ZClasses. While it wouldn't be an absolute catastrophe if I had to recreate my lost data, it wouldn't make me happy. More importantly I'm concerned that something I did broke the system, and if this were in production I would be in big trouble. Can anyone provide ideas on how I might debug and hopefully fix this problem? Thanks. James W. Hourly restarts of Zope (sort of)

We have brought zope up in production -- Yeah!! Now for the problem - under a load while there is still some "fine tuning" going on, we are experiencing frequent zope restarts. I know this has been a topic of discussion in the past but I was curious if anyone else has had such problems and/or what can be done to track down the culprit and correct the situation. I have tried using the How-To: Using the Zope Debug Log to Track Down Hangs with absolutely no luck. /Control_Panel/manage_debug has been as useful. We have been able to identify some long running user generated queries (ie keyword searches that brought back huge result sets) and eliminated them. But as yet have found no smoking gun as to the restarts. Does anyone out there have any ideas. Let me know what details you need.
