Complex data in Zope objects

Hi, how can I save the values of an associative array within my Zope-objects (products). I tried just using the array, but the results are strange; the array is duplicated across all products of the same type, and values are lost upon restart. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. best, Jacob

alternatives to Zserver

Just wondering what people recommend as an alternative to Zserver on Win32. I had python die in the weekend, and today Zope/Zserver completely locked up, and my ODBC connection disconnects for no apparent reason. So I need something more reliable and I'm getting desperate. Documentation: distributed load

Wow! Lots of postings concerning the documentation! I liked the idea with the news, because threads would already improve the situation quite a lot. I tried the eGroups search but didn't like the interface. I also tried the archive at www.progressive-comp.com but my eyes just won't read that tiny white text on black background without me getting a serious headache. Also the problem with threads is that they're only threads - not topics, not much intelligence behind them. What I love(d) so much about books like the perl-cookbook is that you can look at the table of contents and if you have a basic understanding of what your problem is about you will find the solution almost instantly. I think the secret here is a well organized table of contents (toc). I liked the idea that I posted earlier (of course;). I think it would be great if some people would collect all the postings concerning a certain topic. But that would also mean a lot of work for those poor guys. Here is another idea that I just got on my way to work. It's based on the cookbook table of contents idea. If somebody (say DC) would release a table of contents, i.e. a hierarchical list of topics or catchwords, everyone could use them like this: Let's assume a very simple toc: dtml dtml-var Now if someone wants to post a question concerning dtml-var he can put [topic:dtml-var] somewhere in the text. Everyone receiving this message can copy or transfer it (via filter) into the mailbox "dtml-var". If someone who doesn't know about the toc posts a question it's no problem as long as the ones who answer the question do. The load of categorizing would be distributed very well. If the toc is created thoughtfully it also serves as a mind map to zope. Multiple catchwords per posting possible. Apart from putting together the toc and posting it nothing would have to be done. (Perhaps later a squishdot-lile interface could be built.) Sorry, this has become quite long. What do you think about it? Ragnar

I have two questions where I just couldn't find the answer to (the documentation-retrieval is killing me): 1. How can a dtml-method know which folder it is in? 2. How can an external method know which folder it is in? I think I read this somewhere - I just can't retrieve it... Ragnar

How do YOU enter content?

I would like to get some opinions on the best way to design a web site using Zope. I don't mean the part about factoring content and general design principles. What I'd like is how people sit down and do it. Do you type DTML? Do you work in a webpage designing suite then write out the HTML and switch the relevant stuff to DTML? If so, which suite do you use? Do you have any other pearls of wisdom which took a long time to discover but you can't seem to live without now? I'm about to design my first major website from scratch and would like to know. A little advice up front can save me a lot of trial and error down the road. problem with MailHost

I'm trying to get the How-To: How to create a mail form working. I can't seem to get the MailHost set up. I'm on NT and trying to get this to work over a dialup account. My Zope installation is on my local machine and is not accessible via the web, I don't have a domain or anything. However I am connect to my ISP. I have tried for the name of the SMTP Host: pop.albq.uswest.net and for the local host: MOGUL (and I also tried blank) Neither actually sent the email successfully. The blank version didn't send, but did at least return a message saying it had been sent. The MOGUL version returned Error Type: SMTP Error Error Value: Recieved error code 503 from SMTP: 503 RCPT first (#5.5.1) Does anyone have any ideas? removing objects from database

Hi, Is there any way that objects can be removed in such a way from the ZOPDB that the removal can never be 'undone'. Ie, packing the DB after the removal would give this effect, except that I don't want to have to pack every time I remove an object, and I only want to stop retieval of certain objects that are deleted.
