Hi Zopers, I have been looking into Zope of late, partly because I have a web site I'd like to build as a demo, and partly because I felt I should just know some kind of web app tool, and Zope came highly recommended. After playing with it for a bit, I have become nervous about the revision control aspects. Conflicts are pretty much resolved silently in favor of the last person to make a change. There is some sort of branch scheme, but my initial impression of it was that it was pretty also suffered from the lack of merge capabilities. Given that CVS is used for the actual development of Zope, this surprises me. Have I missed something? How do teams work with Zope without stepping on each other's toes? As it happens, I think I know exactly what the problem is, because the same thing happened to me recently. The problem is caused by moving a Zope install. When you remove the first installation, Zope does not clean the registry appropriately, and the reinstall does not overwrite the existing keys. So the value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\{zope service name}\Parameters\start has the old path in it still. If you go in with Regedit and change this to point at your new install, it should work fine. Accessing ZClass data

Newbie question alert!! I have created Zclasses to represent my users using ZUserfolder. Each one has a property sheet called UserData with a StaffID property. I also have a property sheet called OfficeStatus that will contain info about office status (no kidding). I don't understand how to access an instance of this ZClass by referencing it's StaffID. All the users exist in the acl_users folder, but how do I reference them to manipulate the properties? Can I search by any property? I'm a bit stuck. -thanks, mjm

zcatalog, zclasses

Hi, I've been having problems using EventFolder with virtual hosts. My site, http://foo.com/ is at /a/ of my zope installation. When I add an object, foo.com/b/c, the catalog records it as /b/c instead of /a/b/c. If I click "Find" from the Catalog management screen, it catalogs my items correctly. I found this message: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zope/message/70609 describing a solution to the problem: have my zclass inherit from CatalogPathAware instead of CatalogAware. I have some more questions, though: 1) My ZClass already exists. Is there a way for me to add this without making a whole nother ZClass? 2) Can I simply overwrite CatalogAware.py with CatalogPathAware.py? What's the difference between the two? Thanks, Dan ps. Help on Access Rule!!!!

I need help on writing an access rule for my site. I want it to modify the path based on a property of subobjects. My setup has a custom folderish object wich has a property that contains the template which it uses, and depending on this property i want to call http://www.server.com/template_property_of_folder/folder_with_property Got it? Install zope windows

Having 2.4.1 working well on Linux, I am installing it now under windows 98. But something is failing. During the installation, a MSDOS windows open, with: ---------------------- Compiling python modules and no output it is taking several minutes, with no output, and then it keeps on installing. When I launch "start.bat" from explorer, a msdos window opens with E:\Archivos de programa\zopewin>"E:\Archivos de programa\zopewin\bin\python.exe" "E:\Archivos de programa\zopewin\z2.py" -D and no more output. And Zope doesn't start. I am using Windows 98 Spanish (under VMware virtual machine). Zope 2.4.1 binary for windows -- __o _ \<_ (_)/(_) Saludos de Julián EA4ACL -.-
