Option -u does nothing?

I start zope with: exec /usr/local/it/bin/python \ $INST_HOME/z2.py \ -u zope \ -X -w zope.ulticom.com:80 and it looks like the -u option does not work: % ps -fp "$( < /export/zope-2.4.1/var/Z2.pid)" UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD root 14621 6308 0 12:51:29 ? 0:34 /usr/local/it/bin/python /export/homed/zope-2.4.1/z2.py -X -w zope.ulticom.com: root 6308 1 0 11:07:24 ? 0:00 python /export/homed/zope-2.4.1/z2.py -X -w zope.ulticom.com:80 -u zope Is -u not working? Or am I doing it wrong? Even if it did work, after the install everything belongs to root so I'm sure it would fail to run properly. perf of file verus Zope objects

Hi, I will have a collection of documents (300 folders, 8 docs in each). I can manage this two ways : - 300 directories, each with 8 files, in the file hierarchy - 300 Zope folders, each with 8 DTMLDocments Each document has a size between half and one text page. Thanks for the swift reply Trevor, very much appreciated. I think I understand what you mean, but I'm unsure as to the solution. I've recreated the header and the index_html as DTML methods, both in the same folder, and know get the folder name as the title, as expected based on what you said in your email. I then created another header (public_header) and test (testing) DTML methods, and get the same results when I try to display the title/ID of the calling document in the public_header DTML method. I'm at a loss on how to proceed to solve my problem. Can anyone help? Zope NT Service dies

Greetings, My Zope NT4 Zope service is not working :-(. Thanks to Any MyKay I have some diagnostic information. Running the zservice.py produces this output. C:\BATCH>C:\PROGRA~1\ZOSMB\bin\python.exe C:\PROGRA~1\ZOSMB\zserver\zservice.py debug Debugging service ZOSMB Info 0x400000FF - Starting Zope. Error 0xC00000FF - Zope died and could not be restarted. Info 0x400000FF - Stopping Zope. Info 0x400000FF - Stopping Zope. Any additional information would be apprechiated. Cheers, Curtis

Thanks Andy I am able to add, remove and start the service using that zservice.py as a command line utility. Unforunately the Windows NT event viewer reports "Zope died and could not be restarted." I don't see any output using the zservice command. Am I using it correctly? Can I just move my data.fs file over to a new installation? Hello! I'm trying to create a standard_header that when included in a document uses the calling documents namespace. So, if the standard_header was: <html> <head> <title><dtml-var title_or_id></title </head> ... ... and the index_html document had as it's first line: <dtml-var standard_header> How can I make the standard header DTML document write the title/ID of index_html or any of the documetns that call/include it?. Do All Classes Have Default Current Objects?

I was rummaging about in Zope last night trying to figure out how I could find out the user name of the current user. Turns out, of course, to be pretty easy. But I would never have thought of it without the HowTo's help. I had tried using AuthenticedUser.getUserName() without success but when I changed to use the apparently automatically defined AUTHENTICATED_USER object, it worked. So two questions. 1. Do all of the Zope Classes have an equivalent object that I should use when I want to invoke their methods on the current instance? Or is this true only of objects passed via the REQUEST? 2. Is this fact -- or anything else about these globals -- documented anywhere? I looked through the Zope Book, ZQR, HowTos and Tips to no avail. I also searched the online help.
