running C/Fortran progz via command line ?

Hi, I wonder if anyone could perhaps answer a question for me regarding Zope and it's ability to inter(face/act) with external applications - running on the same (linux) machine. I am developing a web application and one of it's functions requires it to be able to execute programs (mainly written in c, but also Fortran) via command lines including all the required arguments; e.g. ./do-something -i1 file1.txt - i2 file2.txt -o results.txt In some cases the program output would have to be obtained (and returned to Zope for processing), and in others it would not - some of the calculations take a few hours - in which case the results would be mailed directly to the user when complete. I anticipate the flow of things will be as follows: 1-User will submit some data / upload files via web forms. 2-Zope will then use this data and then generate a command to execute an external program running on the same machine. 3-The user can then be notified if the program executed correctly, and if applicable, return any data. Can Zope be of any use here? Is the above possible? Is anyone doing something similar at the present time? If anyone could provide me with any information, I would greatly appreciate it. - Best regards, Lee Reilly

Installing a ZCatalog inside a product?

Hi, I have a product that I would like to add a search facility to and I could use a little help... The product contains a number of nested ZClasses: --ZClass A (main 'container' ZClass) --ZClass B ('message' class) --ZClass C ('reply' class) Each ZClass has been assigned a CatalogAwareBase. In order to add a search facility where should the ZCatalog be installed? Inside the product or alongside an instance of the product. I would prefer to install inside the product so that it is self contained and self updating for each instance. Is this possible? To make Zope server believe that content-type text/plain means the encoding you described you can probably hack lib/python/ZPublisher/Client.py around lines 180-200 to accept extra encodings in addition to standard encodings multipart/form-data and application/x-www-form-urlencoded. I think you're right. This format seems to be used for e-mails (RFC2646). I'll try to add this mime-type to the decoding module. But it seems more to be in cgi.py because this module checks the content-type. Armin

The result is 1 if the string is the name of one of the object's attributes, 0 if not. (This is implemented by calling getattr(object, name) and seeing whether it raises an exception or not.) POST with Content-Type : text/plain fails

Hello everybody, I want to connect a external server to Zope. This server talks t Zope via simple http-requests. The connection fails at Zope if I use the 'Content-Type: text/plain' from my external server. Hello list, I want to do a form submit with an image. I do: <INPUT SRC="<dtml-var OK_Button>" BORDER="0" TYPE="image" VALUE="Submit" NAME="OK"> But Zope gives me : <INPUT SRC=" <img src="http://bc-apps:8080/login/images/OK_Button" alt="OK Knopf" height="25" width="70" border="0" />" BORDER="0" TYPE="image" VALUE="Submit" NAME="OK"> Is it possible to get the path of an image in ZOPE without creating a HTML image tag ? Setting default permissions from Python code

We are currently developing a learning environment by making our own Zope product. The product has several courses and different users have different Zope roles on each course (tutor, student, expert). That is, a user X may have a role 'student' on course C1, but only role 'tutor' on course C2. We implemented security as described in Zope Developer's Guide (http://www.zope.org/Documentation/ZDG/Security.dtml) however, when we use setPermissionDefault() for class ClassSecurityInfo, there are no any visible changes in manage_access interface. It looks like default permissions set in Python code don't affect Zope at all. We checked how permissions are handled in the CMF (Content Management Framework) product. Here is a code snippet from setupPermissions(): <-- cut <--- def setupPermissions(self, p): # Set up some suggested role to permission mappings. mp = p.manage_permission mp('Set own password', ['Member','Manager',], 1) mp('Set own properties', ['Member','Manager',], 1) mp('Add portal content', ['Owner','Member','Manager',], 1) ...etc.. ---> cut ---> So we added some manage_permission() calls to our own code after which everything worked just like we want. Is this currently the only way to manage default permissions?
