I agree that this is (or event triggers in general are) a useful soft of thing. I think one thing that will eventually come out of ComponentArchitecture/Zope3X efforts will be the service-ization of such infrastrucuture as a standard component of Zope the way that workflow is a standard component of the CMF... Hi Bruce Using ZPatterns, you can use SkinScript to do this kind of thing: WHEN eventspec CALL expression [ SAVING mementolist ] It's a framework for use with Zope: http://www.zope.org/Members/pje/ZPatterns Philip Eby, who wrote ZPatterns, isn't developing it further now, since it looks like Zope 3 will provide most of what ZPatterns does. HOWTO: Using Xron on Zope 2.4.x

(This replaces the previous version of the HOWTO at http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-December/105668.html ) To use Xron on Zope 2.4.x, some hackery is required .. the following takes a Linux point of view, but only point 3 is somewhat platform-specific. 1. Import DateTime correctly. Instead of: from Globals import DateTime do this: from DateTime import DateTime You need to do that once each in 'Dispatcher.py' and in 'XronDTMLMethod.py' 2. Implement the patches in this thread: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2001-July/012486.html In short: you need to do this: from Products.PluginIndexes.FieldIndex.FieldIndex import FieldIndex and instead of this: self._catalog.addIndex('name', 'FieldIndex') you now need to do this in a couple of places: self._catalog.addIndex('name', UnIndex('name')) 3. This posting: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-April/087151.html mentions a 'deadlock on start-up problem' for Xron on some systems. Roché Compaan enlightened me as to a fix. Xron needs to write to certain files, so they have to be readable and writable to the user Zope starts as. If Zope runs as nobody, for example, run 'chown -R nobody *' in the Zope root, and modify './start' to do something like 'su -c nobody ..../python z2.py ....' (i.e. change to 'nobody' *before* Zope runs). 4. Slay the dragon hinted at here: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2001-July/012502.html AFAIK, this is fixed by providing authentication information in 'Dispatcher.py':: (headers,response)=rpc(furl,'username','password') # Fire event Regards, Jean Jordaan

Zope on local Win2K machine and IE

Hi! I installed Zope on a local (Win2K) machine that uses a modem dial-up to connect to the internet. Whenever I type in "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" in IE (6) to get to the Zope Server, Windows always prompts me for an internet connection. When I "stay offline", the page does not display. When dialling in, everything works fine. So with IE on Windows 2000, I have to be online to connect to the local (_really_ local, not even LAN) server. I find this stupid and unacceptable. Is there any easy way to get around this problem? Thank you very much in advance for your help, Danny P.S.: Netscape doesn't invoke this prompt, it connects just fine.

It seems that the <dtml-sqlvar ... type="nb"> in a ZSQL method will write to a Long Integer data type in MS Access. I have not tried the other Access data types like memo, currency, etc. If anyone has experience with these, please share them with the list. Thanks. > Hi. URL Redirection problems...

Hi! I'm facing a problem concerning URL redirection inside Zope: Suppose a try to make a redirection to a DTML document using it's relative path instead of the absolute one: DTML >> <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.redirect('/abc/xpto?a=1&b=2&c=3')"> Python >> container.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect("/abc/xpto?a=1&b=2&c=3") So far so good... The redirection process goes on apparently well. But if I try to reach the variables I passed in the query string (e.g., REQUEST["a"]), kaput... what a surprise... they don't exist in the REQUEST object as I expected. Apparently the variables are not stored in the REQUEST object. Now the good thing is that the query string is not lost since its stored in a special variable called QUERY_STRING. So if I execute: <dtml-var expr="REQUEST['QUERY_STRING']"> I should get: "a=1&b=2&c=3" I can always parse the string and get the values for each variable, but is there any logical explanation for this? INSTANCE_HOME...Please..

Hi; I'm trying to get Jim Cain's multiple zope instances script working. I would like to get this working so that I can build INSTANCE_HOME on top of it and install a bunch of products without having to always re-do everything! I have this output from zstart (designed to start my one instance of zope): #su nobody -c \ > "/usr/local/bin/python /home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/zope0/z2.py \ > -p /home/httpd/cgi/zope0/Zope.cgi \ > -w '' -m '' -f 8080 -t 2 -Z /home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/zope0/var/zProcessManager.pid \ > INSTANCE_HOME=/home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/zope0 \ > /home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/zope0/z2.log 2>&1 &" I've created the extra files (Zope.cgi, z2.log). I wasn't quite sure what pid Jim wanted for his *manager.pid*, so I assumed the zProcessManager was what he was after and stuck that in. At any rate, when I run the above I just get a prompt returned, but Zope isn't started. Can someone please let me know what I'm doing wrong? TIA, BenO
