Look through your log file /apache/Zope-2.2.4-linux2-x86/var/Z2.log If that doesn't help, try setting up a DETAILED_LOG_FILE. There is a line in z2.py that lets you set this up. Search for DETAILED_LOG_FILE. It still seems fishy that the server is dying every few hours. Are you using any special products? My newly installed (from source code) Zope2.3.0/Zserver (not pcgi/apache) on Debian 2.2 has been up 9 days with no problems and I expect it will run until I add a new product or decide to upgrade zope. ZClass inheritance and properties (Zope 2.3.0)

Hello, I found another more subtle problem with ZClass properties. When I create two ZClasses, one of which is the parent of the other, some properties seem not be inherited properly. I create one class ("parent") with parent classes ZObject, CatalogAwareBase and ZObjectManager. This class has among others a property called "date1" of type Date. I create another class ("child") with parent classes ZObject, parent (from above) and ZDTMLDocument. Now the problem is that the date1 property is not set properly when I put a new value for "date1" an the REQUEST and call propertysheets.Basic.manage_editProperties(REQUEST) (which updates all other properties of "child" properly). Also "date1" doesn't show up in the properties tab of any "child" object. (Are inherited properties meant to do this??? If not it might be a good idea that they do. The property sheet should maybe show inherited properties in a different color etc.) However when I try to create a new property called "date1" in the "child" property sheet I get an error: "Invalid property id, date1. It is in use." Is this the right way I am using kind of multiple inheritance here? What am I doing wrong? (I am running Zope 2.3.0 on RedHat Linux 6.0) Thanks --Oliver

In the interest of time, I won't try this one in French :) Hmmm. A key error in a ZClass. This reminds me of some of the difficulties of ZSQL methods in ZClasses: not having a connection in the ZClass so we can't add a method. Try adding a Mail Host in the methods of DerivedClass. If that works, then we need to make sure that anonymous users have access to the MailHost object either directly in the ZClass or by way of acquision. I'm about to exhaust my knowledge of ZClasses, so someone who knows more can feel free to add info here. synchronize ZOPE passwords - Unix passwords

Hi! Is there a possibility to make ZOPE use the passwords of standard Linux system users? So if a user of the Linux machine has changed his password it should also automatically change his password in ZOPE system (not nessesarily immediately, but e.g. before he logs in ZOPE) How it is possible to change the roles of a ZOPE user in synchronization with groups in Linux? I can access Linux user-group-password structures from Python, but could I compare and modify ZOPE user passwords in Python, and how? thank you in advance Andrey

Linux, Zope, Python versions not playing well together?

Hello, all. Quick background info: Developing on Linux box (2.2.x kernel) w/ Python 1.5.2 + Zope 2.2.2. (Call it "DevBox") The Powers That Be have said actual "production" platform is Linux 2.4.1 kernel, Python 2.0, Zope 2.2.2. (Call it "ProdBox"). So I: 1. Stop Zope on both boxes. 2. Move $/Zope/var/Data.fs* and $/Zope/Extensions/* from DevBox to ProdBox, untar/gunzip Products on ProdBox. 3. Verify/adjust permissions as necessary. 4. Start Zope on ProdBox (running as user "zope", not root). ProdBox runs (seemingly) okay w/ stuff from DevBox, except... A. Zope start up errors: WARNING: Python C API version mismatch for module cStringIO: This Python has API version 1009, module cStringIO has version 1007. (This module plus a list of 25 other modules.) They don't keep Zope from running, but I wonder if this is the root of my other problems(?). Anyone know of incompatibility issues b/w Zope 2.2.2 and Python 2.0? B. Also, user logins kill Zope, but it restarts on its own. Example: Went to http://ProdBox. Cool. Went to http://ProdBox/Folder. Cool. Went to http://ProdBox/Folder/DTMLMethod. (User login required) username: ***** password: ***** "Server not responding, using cached copy" error (wtf?). In my telnet window, I see text scrolling because Zope just started (restarted). Click click click, all is seemingly well now... Went to http://ProdBox/manage (Zope management interface, different user login required) username: ***** password: ***** "Server not responding, using cached copy" error (wtff?). In my telnet window, I see text scrolling because Zope just started (restarted) yet again. Anyone have any idea why Zope is dying and instantly starting up again (as far as I can tell it only happens @ login)? Could this be related to the Z2.2.2/P2.0 incompatibility issue (if any)? I'm wary of upgrading to Zope 2.3.0 based on problems I had last time I upgraded (lots of stuff 'broke' in the transition), but not 100% adverse to the prospect of doing so. hi, there seems to be a problem with the zcatalog on the www.zope.org site. when i search for "acquisition" i get an error "System Unavailable .. Error type: KeyError, Error value: 11782". there's no problem searching for "aquisition" or e.g. "zclass" however :) oliver
