LoginManager in another folder

I've been using LoginManager for a while with no problem, in a folder. So any access to that folder and subfolders requires a login. Now I'm trying to duplicate exactly that functionality in another folder, and it is just not working. So if my hierarchy is like this: folder X folder Y acl_users I can copy folder Y, and the acl_users doesn't work, but I can copy folder X and it does! Anyway, pretty much anything I tried here just did not work (I just wanted it to work exactly the same as the one I was copying) So plan B: start all over. Using HowTo http://www.zope.org/Members/jok/SQL_based_LoginManager I create a document "test" viewable only to my "TestRole", and it does not acquire any permissions. When I try to view that page, as expected, I get bumped over to the "loginForm". The problem: the loginForm just gives a traceback. Why do I just see this traceback instead of the form? Did I miss some step in the How-To?  Thanks for all the help so far. Regards, JJ

Displaying something based on role doesn't work properly

Hi, I'm running LoginManager with cookie-based authentication on my site, and I use the following piece of dtml to show a particular menu in the header of a page if a user has a particular role: <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role(['SomeRole'])"> [menu] </dtml-if> It works fine, except for one document: standard_html_header. When I try to access a page on my site that doesn't exist, the menu is not shown in the header anymore. This is not the way I want it. I thought this may be because it was a publicly viewable document, and required no authentication, but all of my other publicly available documents preserve the menu just fine. Any suggestions to what I'm doing wrong or not taking into consideration? Thanks in advance, Alexander.

I have been reading a lot about Zope and its uses but have a question. Is this something I can use to create and manage web sites or is it mostly for a website application? Also, would this be something I could run on the servers of my hosting company, or would this be used in a company that has their own T1, or whatever? Robert

Interesting ownership behavior...

We are using Zope 2.2.2 on IRIX 6.5.x using ProxyPass in Apache to virtual host a domain that accesses its files from a folder off of the root. At the time of the development my cohort here had the only root access, I had only manager access to the specific folder in which I was doing the development. Yesterday, I set up a new domain in the same fashion, ProxyPass from Apache to a different folder off the root, to do this I needed root access, so I was added, and not feeling I needed a local access account we removed my local information from the user folder. At this point, all the files I created as the local user were, of course, still owned by that user. However, this user did not now exist, in reply Zope asked anybody trying to access these files to authenticate, even if they had already. I then added the username again in the local folder and it assumed ownership of all the files, which circumvented the issue. I reproduced this in 2.2.2, I was unable to do so in 2.3.0. Is this a bug, a feature, a freak occurrence and was it fixed or did it just "go away" as some things in the programming world do? TIA, ______________________________________________ Jeffrey D. help with LoginManager

I followed HowTo for using LoginManager with SQL, and when I try to access a page that is covered by that LoginManager, I get this:  It looks like it is correctly trying to display the "loginForm" rather than the page I requested, so that seems normal. But the "loginForm" itself does not display, only the zope error. What does it mean? How can I find out what the problem is? Thanks, JJ

Product catalog/how to handle graphics?

I am currently implementing a product catalog, which is both viewed and updated online. I have been using MySQL to store the data. Firstly I should say that I am very impressed with zope. I have probably spent around 4-5 days (i.e. 4-5*8 hours) and have set up zope and MySQL, done the site templates and created modules to add/modify product, display the catalog and display items for an individual item. The only thing that is missing is how to handle the graphics. Each product has a thumbnail (100*100) and a main graphic (400*300). Importing the graphics into zope and telling the database where they are is obviously the simplest solution but as all the rest of the data is in the database I really want to put the graphics there two. I guess there are two sides to this: 1) Put a couple of File Browse fields on the form used to add new products/edit existing ones. Then find some way of tacking this file from the local file system and getting it in the database (probably as a blob datatype). 2) Retrieving the image from the database and getting it to appear in a webpage (I guess a temporary stage or extracting the image from the database into zope may be required). The problem is I don't know how to do either of these things and also am not sure if I am going about the whole thing the right way. The reason I like using a database to hold things is because it has enables me (up to now) to not have to use any Python. As you can imagine this is very good for me as I am very new to zope and do not know python (also I knoqw a lot about rdbms). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Ben PS I am thinking of doing some HOWTOs (like the inserting data into a database) such as inserting/modifying data from forms and displaying data from a database (single records and multiple records). This would form a kind of using zope as a front end for rdbms primer. Do people think this is worth doing.
