Hi, I create a class whth two dtml method: edit, edit_done. This class has one Properity "Title" edit contain: ------------------------------------------- <form action="edit_done"> Title:<input name=inputTitle value=<dtml-var Title>><p> <input type=submit> ------------------------------------------- and edit_done contain: ------------------------------------------- <dtml-call "manage_changeProperties(Title=inputTitle)"> ------------------------------------------- but the edit_done dtml method can't modify the properity of the object of that class. ZPT - how to get started with Macro, I get "version None" error

On Zope 2.3.1 without ParsedXML on Linux RH 7.0 I installed TAL and PageTemplates per instruction. I'm trying to use SimpleWelcome and the master macro. I created a folder named "test" In there I created two page templates, one called Welcome, with the SimpleWelcome text (modified) and the other template is called "master" with the sample master macro. I changed SimpleWelcome to be something like this: <html xmlns:tal="http://xml.zope.org/namespaces/tal" xmlns:metal="http://xml.zope.org/namespaces/metal" metal:use-macro="here/master"> <body> <div metal:fill-slot="main"> <p>Welcome to the machine</p> </div> </body> </html> (also tried "container/master") In both cases I get:  I also tried making Master just a DTML method.. No change. Does "master" have to be a ParsedXML document? I just need a little boost to get started, does anyone have this working on their Zope? REQUIRING Python 2.1??

[ First of all, I wish people (including Digicoolers) would title their messages descriptively, not just say "Important notice" or whatever. I'm sure many of us consider our words important :) ] Second, I am MYSTIFIED (there's no better word) that DC is in such a rush to REQUIRE the use of Python 2.1 for Zope 2.4, when we're still waiting for Py 2.1 final to even come out. Why put all your eggs in that basket, and why force the community to choose between changing to a bleeding-edge Python or retiring to a frozen Zope rev? Does DC not realize that Python has OTHER applications besides Zope? and that for a given community site, changing Pythons might have unexpected side effects in systems whose developers are less gung-ho about rushing to 2.1 than DC is? I thought I'd set my mind at ease by reading the wiki Brian referred to -- which is called "SupportPython21" although it should apparently have been named "RequirePython21" -- but all I could glean from their justifications was [1] it'll make i18n easier (wow, that's huge), [2] there's some other things with strings and such that "may" be useful, and [3] of course there's a raft of other potentially disruptive differences, but hey, at least we found a way to make i18n easier! I can't quite help wondering whether someone at DC has maybe gotten so "into" the development of Py 2.1 that they just can't wait to use its new stuff, whether it's objectively what's best for Zope or not. The prudent thing to do would have been to add features as needed using 1.5.2-compatible code, or at best to offer a "new18n" branch that requires 2.1, which people who are THAT desperate for i18n could choose to follow if they wanted. Then, say 6-12 months after 2.1 is gold, you could unify and require it for 3.0. Instead, for the sake of being able to let the Python developers stick a Zope logo on the 2.1 release, we are risking a boatload of trouble. On the basis of prior performance I do not expect this objection to make any difference in what DC does, but I needed to express it anyway. That gives me a thought - anyone for "Rope"? :)

Two Pythons and PIL module newbie question..

Hello, I'm sorry to ask such a dumbish newbie question.. I am using the Zope binary release on a Debian Linux system. Debian of course comes with its own Python, so now there are two Pythons on my server box. I recently installed PIL from a .deb, and now I am finding that my Zope installation can't see it. (I assume because my Zope's Python needs to be told where to look for it) What is the proper way (or configuration files I need to edit/link I need to create, etc?) to rectify this situation? Thank you! Also.. another related question.. is there any way the PIL could be available to both Pythons without a conflict, or having to install it again.. Thanks.. Chris

xml-rpc and objectIds

when was the objectIds method removed from xml-rpc? I'm trying to do an xml-rpc based manager for zope, so I can browse, create, edit and delete any kind of object (dtml methods, python scripts, ZsqlMethods, etc) for browsing I need the objectIds method, but it doesnt seems to be available on zope 2.3.0 I'm using a patched xmlrpclib that supports basic http auth, so this is not an anonymous user trying to request the objectIds method, it's admin (owner/manager). but I get resource not found. If everything keeps this way I'll just use webdav for browsing and xml-rpc for editing/creating/deleting objects. now that I think about it... can I create any object using webdav? I mean, may I /manage_addProduct/OFSP/addDTMLMethod on dav? or will i require xml-rpc for it? thanks Alex

Are regular expression integrated in DTML in some way?

It's unbelievable! I'm losing my MiNd! (And no I'm not selling furniture or used cars 8) I've spent the last 2 hours trying to find the answer to what I thought was a simple question. What is the simplest way to validate a form input date in the syntax of MM/DD/YYYY? I was thinking a simple regular expression would be ideal but I found no reference suggesting that regexp's are supported in DTML and you cannot import the regexp object in a Python script without creating a custom product/script and that seems too convoluted so that leads me to believe that there must be another way that I just haven't found yet. Hello I am *curious* to hear what you all think about Zope, openSource and credits... Looking throught the list at http://www.zopezen.org/links I was surprisd to see the radio station 1010Wins listed: http://1010wins.com/ which looks like a fast food clone of http://cbsnewyork.com/ But 1010wins.com is very fast and good at what it does. Also a good commercial showcase for Zope in fact. Or would be.. Now www.zope.org is famous for not showing off its own products capabilites http://www.zope.org/Resources/CaseStudies = new form of anti-adverstising but this is ridiculous. 1010wins is not even listed on zope.org. And neither 1010Wins nor CBSNewYork carry even the tiniest Zope logo. And it is often easy enough to prove it is a zope site [==> /manage] But is it trivial for Zope to miss this? Surely a minimum reasonable requirement / idea is that real zope sites, especially those used in the commercial or media worlds should carry some kind of logo/Zope_id/promo somewhere, even if not loudly on the home page where screen_estate is at premium? On could try to argue that as in many work for hire situations, the client has no implicit obligation to credit individuals, expecially if the contract says so. But even the movies go to some effort to blip your name up there for couple of seconds at the end. What does Zope stand to gain or lose by not by encouraging some modest mimimum credit inclusive license? How does it affect does DC and this community likewise? Is it tacky/helpful/irrelevant/essential to promote Zope in this fashion? Isn't America already dead from logo-fatigue syndrome? I am not trying to beat up on anyone, and I am truly delighted that DC's priorities are work hard to succeed as a company while feeding a great open source project. Elegant potent engineering arriving soon with good stability, features amd documentation. Yes these do come before hype and promo. But it seems a shame that ther is not a little higher profile material to help everyone get gigs and win arguments for why trust Zope. Hide tabs and dirpath in Squishdot

Hi, I am using squishdot 1.0.0. I have some users who are moderators. I get them to manage a part of squishdot by manage_moderation. In this screen they also see al the other managementtabs but only the modarationtab is active. 1. Is there a way to hide the other managementtabs from these users? 2. Is there a way to hide the directory path that is displayed on top of the page? Thanks Frank Zorge
