Passing variables around.

I have a general menubar on my site, who's orientation will vary depending on which page its on. Sometimes its on the left, sometimes its on the right. And its color can vary, too. So that's two bits of information that I want to be able to pass to the dtml method /standard_menubar in each page. What i'm currently doing is this: <dtml-let Prefix="'L-'" Color="'Orange'"><dtml-var standard_menubar></dtml-let> Is that the 'correct' way to pass variables around? Hmm. Would it be better to just set 'Properties' on my content_html DTML document? Speaking of. I'm designing my site with the 'One Folder per Page' paradigm. Should content_html be a DTML document or method? Are there advantages or disadvantages to each? My understanding is that the Folder would then become the 'object' that is the page, instead of the content_html being the object within the folder... is this correct? --Ix

Quick&dirty (not really dirty, but sure quick): Take a look at the LocalFS Product, it makes it possible to get through to the local fs. Zope-integrated: Take a look at ZPublisher.Client, a small howto is at http://www.zope.org/Members/lstaffor/ZClientMethod to see how to write an external method which does everything which your script does. Perhaps zope in 2.3 you can use a python-script for this task, don't know that though. This opens the problem to periodically fetch the data, but it would make it possible to get it again for every client-request (which you don't want to do I guess). A mix between the two. Take a look at utilities/load_site.py in your zope-directory to see the necessary things to do to add methods/folders via script. You just have to construct the right URIs to call inside your script which add a method/text file through a web interface. You can also use ftp-access or DAV to easily put the data into zope. cheers, oliver

Problems with 2.3.1

Hi, Hmm, I think that there is something wrong with 2.3.1. I've download the source version of Zope And found the following problems: - Mozilla 0.8.1 can't correctly displays <select> lists. This was corrected through a patch but this patch has, apparently, not found its home inside 2.3.1. - I've competing write conflicts inside Connection.py, that error didn't happen before. Parrot Language a Hoax?

The date of the press release on the merger of python and perl have made a few people wonder just how serious it is, not to mention the fact that the two languages are so dissimilar that merging them is like merging English and Chinese. Seriously, how do you reconcile a concise language with one right way to do something with a flexible language that lets you do something anyway you want?? Something that was designed to be OO from the start with something that wasn't?? Would any existing scripts in either Python or Perl run on the new Parrot language? Or is it part of the Babylon of new languages - Yet Another Language to Learn?? On the other hand, even though Parrot may be a hoax, the idea is not dead, deceased, or expired - merely sleeping. JB
