hello all! maybe this is an old issue but please forgive me, i am a newbie :) in Zope2.3.x for Linux (RH-7.1) is it possible to change the behaviour of an object with another object that comes after it, when you call it from a browser? for few examples: my folders: /web/articles/jane/art1_html /web/BOOKS/fiction_html /web/misc/print_view (print_view is a DTML_Method) www.mydomain.com:8080/web/articles/jane/art1_html (normal view) www.mydomain.com:8080/web/articles/jane/art1_html/print_view (print view) www.mydomain.com:8080/web/BOOKS/fiction_html/print_view (same "print_view" object in use for changing another objects view) www.mydomain.com:8080/web/BOOKS/fiction_html/fancy_view (other possible use) i appreciate any help. ismet

Using ".." and "."

Everywhere I look on the tutorials, I see the use of URL0 (or 1 or 2 or whatever). Is there any disadvantages of just using "." when referencing? eg: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('..')"> to go from "users\update\update_user" document to the "users\" folder An interesting point is that if the document is the index_html, you would only use "." rather than ".." eg: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('.')"> to go from "users\update\" (the index_html of the update folder) to the "users\" folder So, is this a bad way to reference? Is there any advantage in the URLx referencing? Thanks :) SmileyChris

The Field index type is what you need to quickly fetch related objects. We've been implementing many to many relationships like this example: instances of Book store references to its Authors. Instances if Author know nothing about books, but a convenently indexed Catalog lists the Books by one Author whenever that info is needed. We have re-implemented a 25-table Oracle-based DVD movie catalog in ZODB with 8 ZClasses and 4 Catalogs. It was a great pleasure to drop all the link tables that existed only to satisfy the limitations of a relational database regarding many to many relationships. We are extremely happy with that refactoring (the original site was also done in Zope; the difference was only where the entities where stored). The pure object oriented site became much easier to maintain and extend. And performance did not suffer at all; it may even have improved (although we have no hard data to support that, our fears that a pure ZODB solution could be noticeably slower proved unfounded). Great! But unfortunately that doesn't help those of us who already have a collection of ZClasses that are affected by the problems with CatalogAware (can't reparent an existing ZClass). Can one of the DC people let us know if these corrections are scheduled to be merged into the standard CatalogAware? Thanks! Hate to admit to this but I am not very keen on python so you will have to forgive me. I could not follow the simple Python program you sent me. However, I did do some research and found out a little bit about DCOracle. There is a test script included called DCOracle_test.py that tests the extensions. Forgive me if I am being overly simplistic but I am trying my best. We have a ZEO server that runs two client servers and a balance server. In the ZEO/lib/python/Products/ZOracleDA/src/ there is the DCOracle_test.py script. When I test using it I see the following: Import Succeeded Connect Succeeded That means that it is working but that does not solve my problem. When I go and look at the manage interface for the server the connection is still closed and errors out on trying to open the connection. Have any other ideas on how to trouble shoot this?

How can I "from __future__ import nested_scopes" in python scripts?

Hi All, I'm using Zope2.4 beta with Python 2.1 and I want to use the nest_scope functionality. However when I add the prerequisite statement: from __future__ import nested_scopes at the top of my python script it gives me an "ImportError" and "unauthorized" message. By default the nested scopes are not included. How do I this work? Jelle --

Ugrading to 2.3.3 from 2.3.x

After upgrading from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 using the upgrade tarball I found two things: 1. z2.py was replaced - meaning that 'just click restart' on the control panel failed miserably since I needed a changed IP address and port. 2. I now get this message when Zope starts (visible on console) or is restarted from the Control Panel 2001-06-26T15:57:14 PROBLEM(100) ZODB FS FS21 warn: /usr/local/NETKOOK-Z232/var/Data.fs Database records in the future I can guess what this means, but does it mean anything terrible?
