Yet another simple question

If a ZSQL Method *fails to cache* its result (internally by Zope, not by HTTP caching), when it should, what could then be the reason? I have read a few posts on this in the archives but I see no clear solutions. It seems to be that if the SQL string from Zope to the database adapter is one whitespace different it spawns a new db request. We think our SQL is the same all the time, but it fails to cache and the Z SQL Methods slow down our site. Peter

Let me know if I'm wrong, because I'd rather run yours, it seems much more fully developed than mine! Craig

Perl daemon to restart hung Zope on RedHat

A while back there were many comments on the list about Zope hangs, and how to handle them. If anyone is interested, I wrote a Perl script that checks for a response from Zope on localhost and restarts it if there is no response. It uses the init script from http://www.zope.org/Members/markoer2/resources/howtos/redhat_startup, and a few Perl modules from CPAN. It runs as a daemon so that it can started once and ignored. I haven't done it, but you could probably write an init shell script for it, too. The only thing it lacks right now is writing into syslog for it's messages, but I expect I'll work that out in a day or so. Let me know if you want it, and I'll post it. Trouble accessing object properties

Solved it myself. The key, of course, was the ZClass and the fact that I am working with a property sheet. acquisition problem

I am trying to make an object behave like a dtml-method but with one exception. I want it to look in itself first to find the data then look around it like a dtml-method does. So lets say my ojbect is called a and it exists in the folder foo in /foo/bar/baz/a I want it to look in its own vars first for the data it needs to render the dtml then look in baz bar foo just like a dtml-method does. Mainly I need this for my dtml to html generation function. Right now I am calling it with HTML(string, globals())(self, self.REQUEST) That works for giving the behavior that a dtml-document has but not for a dtml-method type behavior at least not so far. How to put links to a local hard disk content in Zope?

A very simple question I think? When I first installed Zope, the localhost:8080 link takes me to the Zope Quick Start dtml with whole hip of links . How do I change this? While I haven't done it, I'm guessing you could look into the code that the History tab uses, and go from there. Not exactly what you wanted to hear probably :) The History tab calls manage_change_history_page, so grepping through my /lib/python directory: ./OSF/History.py makes reference to 'manage_change_history_page' and searching for files with the word 'history' turns up: lib\python\Products\CMFDefault\skins\content\content_status_history.dtml lib\python\OFS\dtml\history.dtml lib\python\OFS\dtml\historyCompare.dtml Those may be places to start looking.
