What DA are you using? I use PoPy and ZPoPyDA. It appears (I haven't verified it) that it rolls back all the ZSQLMethods executed between pageviews. That's all well and good, but users should be able to reasonably expect that their passwords be secure from prying administrators. Sure, an admin could brute force or guess a *nix password, but they aren't cleartext. The only easy way for an admin to get a user's passwd is to chage it (nevermind the 'su username' act). Zope stores it's data in a database, with a seperate security system from the filesystem. These passwords should not be cleartext anymore than you would select the cleartext option for your inituser or access file. Please try to keep this stuff on the list.. thanks. I think having the if..else in custom_zodb.py is a recipe for total confusion. Remove the FileStorage stuff so that the custom_zodb.py file just reads: import ZEO.ClientStorage Storage=ZEO.ClientStorage.ClientStorage( os.path.join(INSTANCE_HOME, 'var', 'zeo.soc'), name="ZEO Storage", storage="1", ) That's it. hash and username variables

Hi, I am a new user of zope, and I have some questions: a) how do I call hash on some text object. What I want to do is generate a text variable from an input form, then hash this and get a (hopefully) unique 32-bit integer number. I want to generate unique keys, as the text is unique, and the hash integer will much faster to pass around. I tried <dtml-call hash(text)> but it produces nothing. Do I have to do this in a python method? b) is there a variable that holds the current user's name? like <dtml-var username> but it doesn't work. PS. I tried searching the lists and on yahoo and on the tutorials and on the zopebook, but I didn't find much information on hash and dtml-call. So please I would appreciate some help on this.

Tuple unpacking in DTML

Hi, How do you unpack a tuple in DTML? I have a python method getEntries that returns a list of tuples. Each tuple is of the form: (doc_text, doc_title, doc_date) The list is generated with: for thisDoc in documents: docText = thisDoc.document_src() newText = string.replace(docText, '\n', '<br />') docSequence.append((newText, thisDoc.bobobase_modification_time())) I want to display this data using the following code: <dtml-in getEntries reverse> <dtml-let expr="sEntry,sTitle,oTime=_.getitem('sequence-item')"> <tr> <td><dtml-var oTime fmt=aCommon></td> <td><dtml-var title></td> <tr> <td valign="top" colspan="2"><dtml-var sEntry></td> </tr> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> However, Zope barfs whenever I try to save this, giving: Expression (Python) Syntax error: invalid syntax , for tag <dtml-let expr="sEntry,sTitle,oTime=_.getitem('sequence-item')">, on line 10 of contentPanel What am I doing wrong? Why can't I use the tuple unpacking syntax in DTML? Or am I going about this completely the wrong way? ;) I would just do a normal <dtml-var document> etc. to publish the date, but I want to replace all the newlines with <br /> tags. I'm not convinced that you've tried everything. An infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of typewriters . . . I have a host on my intranet behind apache with mod-ssl. I connect to zserver (on port 8080) using mod_proxy. I have a Virtual Host Monster in my zope root. VHM rocks. I tried this with SiteRoots and it was always a pain. Follow the recent thread (yesterday?) from Sherwood about using the VHM - Virtual Host Monster. He appears to have mastered it and I know he has many sites on one Zope and there is no port listed on any of the public sites he takes care of. It can and is being done. Hello I am trying to run Zope and ZEO on the same server, but I am unsure if it is working correctly.
