Whoever the Debian maintainer is for Zope, they are very good about recency. You can get 2.3.2 plust the latest hostfix by doing an 'apt-get install zope' from unstable or testing; it's been this way since about a week after 2.3.2 was available. Not too bad... I don't know of any issues with this setup on Debian; I am running it right now on about half-a-dozen boxes. The ONLY issue I have found is that I cannot get it to reliably work as a ZEO storage server (this was only on Debian SPARC - I had no problems on Intel); I downloaded the source install for that on my Sun server, and have no problems running 2.3.2 from the deb as a ZEO client. If you are not using ZEO, than pay no attention to my rambling... Upgrading from 2.2 may create some other issues, however, that I have not dealt with. My guess is, though, there would be no issues particular to Debian upgrade. The "apt-get install zope" from unstable/testing should work just fine, without being disruptive toward your current install data or installed products... Base classes for a folderish portal type (CMF)

Hi everyone, I'm trying to create a ZClass as a base for a folderish portal type. Now it seems I have a problem with the Base classes for my ZClass. Hi, instead of giving the connection object to python, you can create a new one... mycon = MySQLdb.Connection( db=mydb, host=myhost, user=myuser, passwd=mypwd ) Then, you can ask for the cursor of the connection object : mycursor = mycon.cursor() And execute a query like this : mycursor.execute( myquery ) raw_datas = mycursor.fetchall() Finaly, you can close the connection : mycon.close() But I wonder if it's really what you need... Why do you can to access databases from an external method ??? Given that mysql_connection is a ZMySQL database connection object, I expected mysql_connection.db.select_db('database') to work. I ought to add that I want to present the _content developer_ with the list of paradigms that exist within the calling folder _at the time the class instance is made_. I just don't know any way to get a list of the contents within the calling folder into HTML code that makes up the web page for the initial properties of the ZClass. As far as I can tell, the "folder" for creating a ZClass instance is different from the calling folder. Hence my problem. This might be solved if there is some mechanism for getting content from the calling folder _before_ calling the zclass_addForm so that the creation of that web page can reflect the contents of the calling folder. RE: dynamically assigning DB-connections to ZSQL-methods ?

Hi, I meet the same problem... I had to execute the same query but on different databases located on different hosts... What I did to resolve my probleme : I created as many Zope Folder as I had DB Con objects. In each Folder, I put a different DB Con object and my Z SQL Methods. Instead of calling the Z SQL Method "sqlGetDatas()" like this : <dtml-in "sqlGetDatas()"> I call it like that : <dtml-in "myHost1.sqlGetDatas()"> If it based on a cookie, you can put in the cookie the name of the Folder containing the Z SQL Method to call. If all your "DB Folders" are in the Folder "DBCons", you just have to call the Z SQL Method "sqlGetDatas()" like this : <dtml-in "_.getattr( DBCons, myCookie['dbcon'] ).sqlGetDatas()"> I hope to be clear and helpfull, but I am not so sure... Frederic Quin #################################################################### I have to make some ZSQL-methods connect to different database-connections based on a cookie, but am experiencing a bit of trouble.. available DB-connections for a ZSQL-method are listed in a select-box only, not as a simple string , so it is troublesome just adding a python-script to return a DB-connection conditionally.... I'm missing something really basic

I've been using Zope for a couple of weeks now fairly intensely, and learning fast. But then I run into the most obvious question in the world, and I'm stumped (perhaps it's too obvious). I've scoured the documentation, but I can't find it. So here goes. How does a dtml document refer to the URL parameters passed to it? E.g., I have a top-level index_html dtml method containing: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var content fmt=structured-text> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> and a dtml document 'content' at each level in my tree with stx. So far, so good. But now I want to pass two parameters to one of these 'content' document, as in http://localhost:8080/about/news?product=Xdata?newstype=review I can't for the life of me figure out how to get those two parameters. They don't seem to be in the context, and they're only in the REQUEST in the raw parameter string (which I guess I could parse). Sorry if I'm misunderstanding the current conversation. The difference seems to be that a Mailman user is only dealing with e-mail however a Zope user may be making purchases and therefore their password may be more sensitive.
