Updating a ZCatalog within a DTML Method

Hello, I was trying to update a ZCatalog within a DTML Method by using DTML and I could not figure it out how to do it. I have the following structure: MyFolder | |--MyDTML_Method | |--MyCatalog within the DTML Method "MyDTML_Method" I would like to update the "MyCatalog" using DTML so I do not need to go in the "Advanced" View of "MyCatalog" and click the [Update] button. dynamically assigning DB-connections to ZSQL-methods ?

I have to make some ZSQL-methods connect to different database-connections based on a cookie, but am experiencing a bit of trouble.. available DB-connections for a ZSQL-method are listed in a select-box only, not as a simple string , so it is troublesome just adding a python-script to return a DB-connection conditionally.... i got this error... Error Type: error Error Value: (9, 'Bad file descriptor') the rest of the pages in this folder works. e.g. /folder doesn't work /folder/subfolder1 works /folder/subfolder2 works what can i do to fix this? external methods, returning objects...argh!

This is the setup: **childLookup (python method):** branches = context.childBranchesLookup(BranchParent = parentBranch) tags = context.childTagsLookup(BranchName = parentBranch) #these above are ZSQL results... result = context.createNodeObj(branchResult = branches, tagResult = tags) return result **createNodeObj (external method, calling createNodeObj):** class _dummy: def __init__(self, name): self.name=name def createNodeObj(branchResult, tagResult): c = [] for branch in branchResult.dictionaries(): c.append(_dummy(branch["BranchName"])) for tag in tagResult.dictionaries(): c.append(_dummy(tag["CVSTagNo"])) return c So the idea is to call childLookup, which passes ZSQL results on to createNodeObj, and createNodeObj generates a list of objects and returns it. I know, I know I could've done it with an external method only...I only learnt that too late. Now I can't work with the resulting list of objects in Zope! for instance: <dtml-in expr="childLookup(parentBranch = 'Main')"> <dtml-var name> </dtml-in> results in: 'Authorization failed. Retry? DCO2: workaround for non-select errors

I have been unable to fully use DCO2 since switching to Linux (and Oracle 8 client) for my Zope server. Although I can "select" without a problem, I received errors when executing "queries" that didn't return data. (drop/create/insert) Today I noticed the DCO2 beta, so I tried it. Instead of the strange and varied errors I was getting before, I always got an exception from fetchone(). That was just too tempting. So...I wrapped the fetch in fetchone(). if self._result is None: try: self._result = self._cursor.fetch(self.arraysize) self._rcount = 0 except: return None Ta da! Another Quickie Kyler Kludge! Sure, it's probably a terrible way to do it, but it seems to work great. I love Open Source. --kyler

I hoped there was a mechanism like there's in zclasses, where I only have to change the zclass to get the new properties. Is my problem really one of the prices which have to be paid in order to get the benefits of python products over zclasses? cheers, oliver

Debugging, the Zope > Oracle connection, ZOracleDA and truncation?

Does anyone have any idea why some query strings (inserts) using ZOracleDA connecting to an Oracle 7.3 database, might be truncated at between 2000 and 4000 characters? This is not the LOB problem, (they are not single varchar or long fields) I am talking about the length of the query itself, including the values.. (I have already implemented a workaround for the 2000 char limit per field), its something else and whatever it is, its very difficult to debug... What are the best ways to debug the Zope > oracle connection? Trying to figure out what is happening is like trying to navigate in the dark, given Oracle's terse error output.. python products and properties

Hi, is there a way to handle properties in python products in order to get similar funtionality in as propertysheets in python? I'm developing a product right now and it may be that I have to add some properties later (while in production). Right now I have to manually assign a newly added property to already existing instances, because adding the property in the _properties class attribute breaks the properties management tab of these instances. Am I missing something? What do others do? Oh yeah, and I even have a great proof that I tried to find an answer in the archieves, check out this nice page: http://www.y-tex.com/PYthon.html It totally sold me on python products, I really didn't know that they are *that* potent. cheers, oliver
