Chances are (I haven't verified this yet) that PoPy and ZPoPyDA don't set the variable if it isn't there in PostgreSQL. Now, I have migrated the database and the zope instance over to a Linux box running Red Hat 7.1, Zope 2.3.2, Python 1.5.2, PostgreSQL 7.1, with the PoPy 2.0.1/ZPoPyDA 1.2 connecting everything up and we are running successfully. My question is this: we have quite a large number of pages where we use the <dtml-var> tag to dump a field from the database (after a select). On the previous setup, when the field was NULL in the database, the var tag happily did nothing. Now, on the new server, if a Null is found, it prints out None instead of nothing. For now, I am manually modifying the pages and wrapping each of the var tags with an if tag like this: <dtmil-if field><dtml-var field></dtml-if> which gives the expected behavior. This works, but is time consuming. I have examined each of the pieces (Zope/ZPoPyDA/PoPy/PostgreSQL) and cannot find an easy way to change this behavior. After reading some related information on the mailing list, I think the culprit is most likely the DA. Unfortunately, I was not successfull in installing the psycopg DA and the current version of egenics mxDateTime so I cannot compare the two DA's (ZPoPyDA and psycopgDA). Is this expected behavior? Is the Zope 2.3.2, Python 1.5.2, ZODBCDA, MSAccess configuration simply different in some aspect? Why are we getting different behaviors with everything the same except a different database? If there is no way around this, is there a faster/better way to modify the pages so that they don't display anything for a NULL field? Hey all, If you ever wished you could find an object that has a specific property in your site, the following code does the trick. It consists of two methods. Put them in the root folder and "view" FindAProperty. Seems like such a simple thing... I hate to say it, but it is MS Access 2000....have really had great luck with it using Zope. Not doing anything that would come anywhere to taxing it and since ALL connectivity has been with ODBC it has served our purpose very well. Access is NOT installed on either of the two Win2K servers...just using the Access MDB driver that shows up in the ODBC setup panel. Could THIS be it? One server can SEE the other using mapped drives or UNC connections and the ODBC DSN sets up happily without complaint. Don't think it is a Zope issue as I have used another method to try and access the DSN which points to the DB on the other server. Same result...but with it, it shows the 'S1000' ODBC error. [Andy McKay] The ODBC setup should allow you to select a networked database on another NT/2000 server. That should let the the ODBC driver handle it rather than Zope. If your database has client-server capability, you can run a client for it on the same box as the Zope server and access it using ODBC talking to the clienton the one box which gets the data from the database server on the other. I'm doing that successfully running SQLAnywhere. Otherwise, it might be a problem about talking to NT network hosts from Zope. I remember that the LocalFS had a problem with that and you had to install a patch to make it work. Maybe you could find out some details by searching for LocalFS things, and maybe emailing its author. The CMF is not a single "Zope product", but a collection of related products. The "installation document", http://cmf.zope.org/download/CMF-1.1beta/INSTALL.txt describes what you need to do, which is to link/copy the "CMF*" directories from the top-level directory to your INSTANCE_HOME or SOFTWARE_HOME's Products directory. Write an external method (to use with zope) or a separate program in python to parse the file and insert each line into the database. Problems with FTP and Windows 98 clients behind a "firewall" ...

Hi! Currently we have problems using FTP from Windows 98 on Zope 2.3.2: Whenever I try to open a Zope server's FTP port from the in-built MS IE 5.0 FTP support or from teh command-line FTP, I can't get any files listed. "ls" will just hang. This was not a problem with older Zope versions as far as I can recall (But it could also be caused by the firewall). FTP also seems to work fine from Linux (command-line and Konqueror). A further investigation showed that the problem seems to be caused by the "firewall" configuration we are using and the use of "passive mode FTP". Anybody experienced this, too? Any solutions? CMF Problem

Hi all ! Maybe this isn't the right place to ask this, but ... Anyway, I just downloaded CMF 1.1-beta and I tried to install it and it doesn't work. I copied the Cmf-1.1beta folder to lib\python\Products and I can't find the product under Control Panel->Products. Am I missing something here? I am using Zope 2.3.2 on a Win2k box. Thank you !
