DNS lookup problem with urllib in external methods

Have anyone seen this strange behavior. urllib.urlget("http://some-url") works perfectly well from a regular python script. The the same line will produce an Error Type: IOError Error Value: [Errno socket error] host not found when called from an external zope method. However urllib.urlget("http://some-ipnumber") will work fine in that same external method. Any ideas? ZClass and Product migration issues

I am starting to experiment with ZClasses, and hopefully eventually Products in Python. I am wondering how easy it is to migrate at a later date. If I were to create a ZClass based Product and start using it extensively, how easy would it be to migrate to a full Python Product at a later date? If the two have identical or similar methods, is there a way to change the instances over to the new product.? Similarly, if I subclass standard Zope objects like folders and documents, am I likely to have problems in the future with new versions of Zope? In any case I am expecting that the Product will be continually evolving. How are instances affected when new versions of products are installed? I am not too familiar with this stuff and dont want to work my way down the wrong path. Tom

Zope process dies without notice

Hi, Sometimes, the Zope server dies (Zope 2.3.3 / Debian 2.2) . I don't know why and Z2.log does not say anything (just shows the last published object) I can't see any trace of that in the usual system log files. When restarting Zope, there is no special message (no damage to data.fs) Any clue to help me to know the reason of this, where can I search for useful information ? TIA --Gilles

Functions in a python script

Hi, I found a strange behaviour for a small script that runs correctly in pure Python: == SNIP == foo = 'a great text' def bar(): # error below return foo return bar() ==/SNIP== It makes a "NameError" on "foo" !!! If the first line of bar() is "global foo", this does not change anything. How to use python functions inside Zope python scripts ? Is it reserved for External methods ? Should I provide all "globals" as arguments to the function ?

Windows NT 4.0 I have installed version 2.3.3 of Zope and cannot seem to get permissions set for users to have remote access to editing / creating files or using/managing products. When I log in remotely, I get access to the left frame functions like control panel, but do not have access to any of the content functions, including adding and deleting foders / products. This Zope version also starts up differently, without the Zserver Monitor and does not have the usual ACCESS.txt file. (have I entered the Twilight Zone) I haven't found any documentation on these changes. Can someone describe to me what I am overlooking in the new release that prevents me from allowing remote users access to zope? Currently I only have full access by logging in to localhost. I cannot even manage a squishdot.....remotely. Thank you J. Michael Mc Kay

What version of IE are you using(I love to assume IE is the problem :)? What happens when you visit http://server/manage_workspace ? What was in ACCESS.txt? Are you thinking of inituser and access? Upgrade Zope from 2.3.2 to 2.4

Hello guys ... I know I won't be the first to ask this question (or maybe I will *S*) ... but .. I would like to upgrade our Zope installation from 2.3.2 to 2.4 The last time I upgraded there was a Zope-2.3.1-to-2.3.2 (or something like that) tarball I could get. This time there isn't. So how do I upgrade ? Here is how I _THINK_ it should be done: Copy the Products, Extension and var dir to somewhere else (as a backup). Download the 2.4 tarball .. Remove the old Zope dir Untar the new tarball Do whatever to install it. Copy the Products, Extension and var dirs back Start Zope Am I right ?? Will our ZODB objects "survive" this ? Problems with virtual hosting

I am trying to get virtual hosting to work, but run in some trouble. Whenever I try to callup a page I get a 404 error: What am i missing??
