NEWBIE questions

1) How do I set up Zope to be my main FTP and web server? (primarily under Windows, but I imagine this might be useful for some Linux admin) I'm halfway to figuring this out. As in, I know to change the port from the default 8080, I know to create a new folder to contain the site and its documents. I should be getting that done soon. But there should be a paragraph in the FAQ someplace with these details. What I would really like is a nifty little GUI server control panel in the control panel. Something that lets me set ports, enable access control, enable or disable a protocol, set directories and aliases, etc, and a script that lets you suck up an existing website enmasse. OTOH, there may be a good reason why Zope isn't set up to be a primary webserver. I know the historical reason: that it's native environment is a *nix box running Apache or something similar. How about some design explication maybe? Now I've only been at this for two days. This list doesn't have anywhere near the Newbie Intimidation Factor of the Python list. 8-) Thanks Bruce

How do I apply a patch?

Sorry for the dumb question. I have located a patch for DT_In.py but as I am not a dev-er I don't know how to apply it. I have searched Zope, and the world, but I can't spot a how-to. 'patch' is a common word:-) Can someone help me or point me to some instructions please? Thank Neil

Replacing Root Acl_Users

I am sure this question has been asked before, but I can find any information on how to replace the root acl_users folder with something like CookieUserFolder. How to I get column totals?

Hi, I have a SQL query that returns columns of numbers. I'd like to add these numbers together and display the total at the bottom of the page under each column. My question is, as I move through the returned rows how do I add the current value of a field to the sum of all previous values of a field? I'm sure this is very easy - but my mind is fried from the work week and I'm just not thinking about this clearly. I've searched the lists and I can't put the right combination of search phrases together. I suspect this will be a python script solution rather than DTML. Pointers to docs or how-tos I've overlooked would be helpful. Thanks! Mark

XML-RPC from Python

Perhaps this list is the wrong forum for this question, or perhaps it is way premature, but figured I would ask... I was wondering, since XML-RPC is being integrated into the Python 2.2a core library, whether or not it would be a good idea to advoate the idea of extending the XML-RPC library to support basic auth for use with Zope as part of the core xmlrpclib library within Python 2.2? It sure would be nice to have XML-RPC access to auth-protected methods in Zope out of the box. Any thoughts? dtml-newbie question: sql

the structure of my zope-site is fully based on relational mysql-tables. I am generating, e.g., submenu-entries by selecting submenu-titel, submenu-id, submenu-text, submenu-image, etc., from the sql-table 'submenu' and inserting them into the page as dtml-variables (with that, I manage to maintain a 4-level sitemap with users editing contents via some simple ms-access-masks). on a specific content page, e.g., the start page of submenu_1, I added a horizontal navigation list like: submenu_1 || submenu_2 || submenu_3 by means of a <dtml-in submenu-sql-method> listing the <dtml-var submenu-titel>'s as well as their url's (traversal sql-methods). now, I want to escape the link-html-tag (<a href>) for that very sequence-item (submenu-entry) which is the one of the current page (e.g., when I am in submenu_2, I want to drop the (<a href>) for the sequence-item submenu_2): submenu_1 || submenu_2 || submenu_3 I tried this by means of a <dtml-unless> around the <a href>-tag, checking whether the current sequence-item is the same as the one the current page is being built on. my problem: how can I - within a dtml-in-tag - check whether the current sequence-item is a specific one: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <p>this is the submenu number <dtml-var submenu_id></p> <p>navigate to any of the submenu-entries at the same level <dtml-in submenu-sql-method> <dtml-unless expr="sm_id == '[current submenu_id]'"><a href="traversal_url"><dtml-unless> <dtml-var submenu-titel> <dtml-unless expr="sm_id == '[current submenu_id]'"></a><dtml-unless> </dtml-in> I tried to set - outside of the dtml-in-tag - a variable using REQUEST: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('[current submenu_id]',????)"> but it seems I cannot replace ???? by <dtml-var submenu_id> which - content-wise - would be the solution. So, I finally found a solution for this problem. There's an attribute of the <sqltest> tag which allows you to specify the column name (<dtml-sqltest param column="e.deptno">). Using that attribute, the name of the method input parameter doesn't has to be the same as the query column name. Ernst

tacker error

I have the following error when trying to view a trackerWiki on Zope 2.3.3, i.e. the product adds ok, but when clicking on it to try and view it I get the error. The product is the latest CVS snapshot of tracker from http://www.zope.org//Members/klm/TrackerWiki/ Error Type: TypeError Error Value: __str__ returned non-string (type tuple) I have submited a bug report, but was wondering if someone had seen the same problem. thanks Mick
