The "CD catalog/discography" examples in some of the earlier ZClass/ZCatalog howtos are not too bad; that might be a place to start - the _OLD_ Zope Developer's Guide (which only had one chapter - on ZClasses) plus the ZCatalog Tutorial (both written by Amos Lattieir) are a good combo for this sort of example, and could easily be turned into a presentation. I can't seem to find the old Developer's guide other than a printed copy that I have from a while back, but the ZCatalog tutorial, which refers to the CD class created in the old dev guide, is a good example of a relatively trivial ZClass that can be searched... Logging out a user (in code)

Ok, small question - I thought I saw the answer somewhere, but as luck would have it...I can't find it. I have a method that can only be viewed by a user who is logged in. But let's say that I want to put a button in a form, so that when they press it, it logs them out. I figure I'll submit the form to another method, or do some marshalling - it doesn't matter, but what I need to find out is how to log the user out with code.(kill their session, whatever) And I guess I can add another request while I'm thinking of it. Is there (I'm sure there is) to determine if a user is logged in? Something like: if user is logged in do this else do this I'll keep searching, but I appreciate anyone who has a spare second to help me out with this. mystery of the server hang solved?!

For quite awhile, I've been having problems with our Zope server just becoming unresponsive. Usually I note that one python process is monopolizing one of the CPUs. I turned on the detailed logging and Apache's server status, but I still couldn't peg down the problem. Last week it got better. I didn't have to restart the system nearly as often. This coincided with the conclusion of a proposal submission process that runs as part of a system that I suspected was the culprit. Things got so quiet that I decided to try the upgrade to 2.4.0b3 again. I succeeded enough that I moved it into place over the weekend. Today I ran into one of our support people who I noticed was frequently on when the server went bad. He had even complained that he was having a hard time getting to know Zope with it going down all the time. (Hint!) I mentioned that I had changed some things and it seemed more stable, and invited him to give it another try. A few minutes later, I was working with someone else when the server became unresponsive. A quick check of Apache's status showed that the support person I'd just been talking with had several processes waiting for a response. Ah ha! Well...I restarted and went digging. He didn't have much there. There wasn't even a Python Script. But then I noticed a little 'H'...in the icon for his standard_html_footer. I had modified the PUT_factory so that when text/html is uploaded, an HTMLDocument is created. Apparently standard_html_footer was created in this way. It was trying to wrap itself! I thought that there were safeguards against such recursion, but they didn't seem to catch this. It'd be nice if HTMLDocument would verify that it's not calling itself. I'm thrilled to have found the problem. We've only got about 30 authors right now. I suspect it's going to get a lot tougher when we add a few thousand. I need to get ready. (I'm planning to kill requests that take too long to complete.) I appreciate all the help I've received here in my attempt to track down this problem. --kyler

filename property of variable

Hi guys, I have a page of multiple upload file boxes - the name of each one is generated on the fly so I don't know what the name will be when I get to the dtml method to upload the images. I also don't know how many of them will actually have an image to upload. Hence, after much trawling through previous posts I found the following code to check to see if the user has actually selected a file to upload: <dtml-if "newimage.filename"> How do I use this with 'sequence-item'? Charlie, See that's my biggest stumbling block. You really need to have a good object design and then create a ZClass if you're going to work with the ZODB. I'd love to see something simple, like a recipe card file created from scratch using ZClasses. Any "mature" Zope user willing to give it a try? All, I'm looking for a few ideas, as to how to detect when the connection to the browser is dropped. Basically I've got an external method which uses RESPONSE.write to send javascript to an already connected browser, this is then run and affects the page which is being viewed. OK, this works fine, *but* when the stop button is pressed on the browser the external method carries on happily running. The page in question is at https://media-1.ml.uwcm.ac.uk/pushy. Leave it a few seconds and you'll see the page update. Can anyone think of a way to detect when the connection is dropped? tia Phil phil.harris(a)zope.co.uk

Dieter, Thanks for the suggestion; I think I will likely use the regexes in UnTextIndex, but rewrite them using re, as Zope (as of 2.3.2) still uses Python 1.5.2's regex (I haven't looked at the 2.4.0 code yet, but since this is likely a radical change, I think I'll just implement a makeshift query parser using re). Setting permission when installing a ZClass product

Hello, I've made a ZClass product, with some permissions. When you add the product the permissions are there but without any default setup for the roles. Is there a way to have a 'setup' method when installing a Zclass product (i know i can do that with a method by hand, but i want to avoid ask the product user to do it). Any idea about doing that the smart way ? Thanks.

There really should be more documentation on setting up searching and indexing strategies then exists now within the scope of Zope collective knowledge. That said, I think such a document (howto or whatever) is going to have to wait until 2.4 final is released and people start playing with Pluggable Indexes... Perhaps you can be more specific about your problems. I suppose you are working with Text Indexes? What sorts of indexes and queries are you trying to set up; and on what sorts of datatypes? I'm sure that I (and possbily others on the list) would be able to help guide you in your set up of the indexes you need in a manner that suits your search case. Is there some nice neat resource that explains how to get the ZCatalog to do one's bidding (or tell me what I'm doing wrong). Missing mime-types

Hi there, I am implementing a facility to have DWG-files as content in CMF. Checking the OFS\content_types.py I find "application/acad" and "application/dxf" missing. According to what filter was the list of mime types selected ? Would it be possible to add the two above mentioned types? Robert
