If you go to http://www.webtechniques.com/wtawards/2001/getballot.shtml you can request a ballot, and receive a URL via email that you can got to for voting. Zope 2.3 is featured in the 'infrastructure' category, rather than 'strategy' or 'development', but I suppose each person will see that choice differently. I think that in addition to voting for Zope in it's category, people should add a write in candidate for Python 2.1 in the development category. Go team! Michael Bernstein.

Strange problem with ZMySQLDA

Hello, I get the following error when calling a Z SQL Method within a <dtml-in> tag: Warning: Some non-transactional changed tables couldn't be rolled back For example: <dtml-in "_.range(0,5)"> <dtml-call "insert_rec(num=sequence-number)"> </dtml-in> The method just inserts one row into a table. Calling it on it's own works fine, as does executing it via the "Test" function. But calling it from inside <dtml-in> always gives the error. According to the mysql log file it runs the query (althoug the record does not get inserted) and then does a ROLLBACK (why???). External Method Problem

How to force root context thru URL acquisition?

I have a simple DTML Method, Dig, which produces a sitemap by recursively digging into objectValues. I keep this at the root level of our site so that I can give it a URL like http://foo.com/about/stencils/Dig and get a sitemap of everything in & below /about/stencils However, my root dir is getting very full, so I was moving some administrative tools to subfolders where they are used. I want to move Dig to the admin folder. If I do this, I can still get a sitemap of stencils, now with http://foo.com/admin/about/stencils/Dig (assuming that admin doesn't have an about section, of course) However, how do I get a sitemap of the whole site? How can I put into the URL that I want to go back to the top? a) I know I can crete a DTMLDocument that does something like <dtml-with "PARENTS[-1]"><dtml-var Dig></dtml-with>. I want to do this in the URL, not have to create a special method for root digging. b) I tried creating an object in the admin folder to represent the root level. This was called "root", and contained <dtml-return "PARENTS[-1]"> but if I try http://foo.com/admin/root/Dig I don' get anything. Any ideas? Access Object 'by name' from python

Hi, is there a way to access Objects 'by name'? I mean to pass the name or the path of an object to a python script and then call it? Like the _[...] trick? By the way: via objectItems(), I can get a list like ['DB', 'DBAdapter', 'DBInterface', 'index_html', 'rename', 'kadabra', 'abra', 'LogBuch', 'LogNeu', 'delete', 'exists', 'ko', 'asas', 'copy_of_ko', 'listRec', 'listAll'] of all the objects in a given folder. Is there a way to do that recursively? One last question: is there a way to see the type of a given object from python? Or to see if it has certain attributes? There is a version of dbi.dll that lives in ZOPE/bin/lib/win32 We can run this from the command line while in the EXTENSIONS folder of the Zopesite. How can we tell Zope to run using the one from inside itself? And not the one in the Python20/win32 folder? I moved the dbi.dll from bin/lib/win32 and it makes no difference. How does Python see the file to import if it is only a a DLL file? -----Original Message----- From: Thomas B. WHY ? -- Performace in serving large media files from ZODB vs from external file system

Hi Zopers In the performance for large image files discussion Dieter Wrote > Both will be quite slow when servered by ZServer. What could be the reason for being "slow". Since the files are large, the setup time can be ignored ( time to locate the object) Once the object is found only thing that remains is the reading the file from DB ( should be a plain read) and push it to the connection. I do not see a reason for beeing slow on the db read once the data is located inside the DB. Data may or may not be in a continuous block as in the file system. I see no code / decode or copmress/decompress in the process. So why should the ZServer be slow? Do I miss something here? Space in column name with ZODBC

I'm trying to create an ODBC interface to an existing (MSAccess) database that has spaces in its column names. My ZSQL looks like this... select * from "Applicant Database" <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-sqltest LastName op=like column="Last Name" type=string> <dtml-and> <dtml-sqltest FirstName op=like column="First Name" type=string> </dtml-sqlgroup> ...but it generates this error... File D:\Intranet\Zope224\lib\python\Products\ZODBCDA\db.py, line 198, in query sql.error: ('37000', -3100, "[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression '(Last Name like 'A'\012 and First Name like ''\012)'.") There's a lot of garbage in that generated SQL, but at least I'd expect to see the column names quoted or something. Is there a trick to it? Or am I trying to do something impossible? NameError problem with sequence-number

Hello, I can run the following code which runs fine: <dtml-in "_.range(0,5)"> <dtml-var sequence-number> </dtml-in> However adding quotes around sequence-number always gives me an error "Error Type: NameError Error Value: sequence". <dtml-in "_.range(0,5)"> <dtml-var "sequence-number"> </dtml-in> I need to use sequence-number inside of a python expression.
