Hi Andreas, Unfortunately, it doesn't look like dtml-tree can be readily influenced the way you want. There's supposed to be a way to manipulate a variable set in a cookie, but my searches haven't found it yet. Anyway, it appears to accept only the parameters to expand_all or collapse_all, and that's it. If you can find a way to make this work, there would be a *lot* of people on this list who would be interested. From Zope to FTP, without WGET

I'd like to enable a "save to ftp site" button along with the "save changes" one, in my site's dtml-documents, using authorization info previously gathered. Is it possible to use Zope as an FTP client, allowing it to upload immediately the just rendered page to the remote FTP site, at its mirror place? If the case was it isn't already written the code, would you please point me in the right direction? I will be happy if a Zproduct comes out of this purpose. Thanks in advance, Ausum

I'm also new to Zope, but I agree that having "transitional" manuals would be helpful. I'd like to see one that shifts traditional web developers into Zope by tackling the differences head on. I don't think that the Zope book http://serenade.4-am.com/ZopeBook actually does this. It certainly is helpful and provides a gradual introduction to Zope, but really what I want to see is how things should best be done the Zope way. I think I would have been better off starting with chapter 12 of this same book ("Extending Zope"). This chapter introduces ZClasses and shows how to create a product that would allow for a web presentation, user entry through the management interface, etc. For the longest time I couldn't "get" how I would do something as simple as create a recipe card file with Zope. Zope is a total mind-shift from traditional web development/database tools so hit it head on and show a complete development of a generic web site doing things entirely the Zope way. I found it hard to make the mental transition when looking at nothing but DTML since it looks like many of the other systems I've been familiar with (just another tagged based meta-language) but it's not. It's tied into Zope's incredible object database and management interface. Just my two cents... BTW: Don't get me wrong, this book was an absolute godsend! Yes... unless you really want to do something very specific to a particular system... like.. use regexes in Perl. You'd need to search almost forever to figure out how to expose regex functionality in Zope without using an external method. There are lots of other examples like this. When a form is submitted using GET, the form variables are appended to the url exactly as you have shown, and they should be available. I suggest this: try something ***simple*** first. So create a page that has a form, and use dtml instructions to look at the url so you can verify that the variables were passed to the page. Make some dtml page or method that gives you a visible response to the form, showing the value of the variable that you sent (I like to have the response open another window so I can tell just what happened). Then paste that url into your browser so as to ask for the response without actually having any form on a page. You should see the same response. If this works, append another variable to the url and see if you get both of them. If this works, then check the exact syntax of your long url. This will be hard because it is so complex. Compare each part to the short url example that works. Also, have Zope display the entire form (<dtml "REQUEST.form">) - every dtml page has a REQUEST object and see if any part of you data gets into the form. At this point, you should have a good idea where something is not working. If you haven't seen an approach to solving the problem, then post to the list again. Seems to me that there are two main possibilities: 1) Your computer-generated long url has some syntax error in it. 2) The url is too long for some buffer. 2) seems unlikely, but you never know. etcUserFolder

I'm trying to use etcUserFolder to read in my allowed users from a password file for my folder. I get it to read in my password file and it displays the correct users within Zope. When I try to access the DTMLdocument that I have created from a browser on another machine, it asks me for my username and password, which is what I'd expect. But when I enter the username and password that I have in my password file, it says that it failed to recognise the user, although within Zope it displays the user. If I enter the user name and password that I created under root to gain access to Zope then it will display me the document. Thanks in advance.
