Hello you who can change the appearance of Zope.org Wouldn't it be great if at the frontpage, there was instead the latest How-Tos or Tips or Products. One of the best developers sites on the net is PHPBuilder.com http://www.phpbuilder.com/, and the front page they have the latest articles in big with little mugshots of the article authors (which feels very personal and friendly). I don't mind going over to Zopelabs.com for the latest recepies and ZopeZen.org for the latest Zope related diskussions. ZopeGeeks.com is coming up strong and will aim to be like PHPBuilder.com or the old ASPToday.com, but they are not going to have the How-Tos and Tips for a long time. Perhaps ZopeGeeks could "steel" that content from Zope.org and ask zope.org members to upload a mugshot.gif in their Members folders. Just something I want and I kindly ask for. Peter

Python scripts - DB connection question...

Hi there, I haven't used Zope for a few months - I'm now using Python scripts instead of the Python method product. They don't appear to be too dissimilar, but I'm having a little trouble trying to execute an SQL query from a script. In a Python method it would be something like: db_conn = self.Gadfly_database_connection() // generate SQL result=db_conn.query(updatePersonSQL) This doesn't work in a script though. Could someone how to estabish a connection and execute a query? Thanks in advance. - Best regards, Lee

Have a look at python's standard ftplib module. Hi Gustavo, for advanced "playing" just create a ZSQLMethod instance and play with it. It has more options then the simple test purpose on the connection object, which is obviously only there to simple test success with the connection and may be to create some tables on the fly. Certainly not to retrieve more then 1000 rows out of the database. (which sounds like not a good idea anyway in the web environment, thus the default value is set to 1000 - see advanced tab on ZSQL Methods) Regards Tino --On Dienstag, 3. My ZClass python script method now looks like this if username not in context.Members: context.Members.append(username) new_members = context.Members context.propertysheets.Membership.manage_changeProperties(Members = new_members) return 1 return 0 The problem is that this changes the properties of all the objects not just the one I'm interested in. It's as if "context" is the class not the instance.

Assigning a Role Based on IP Address (domain)

Hi all, I want to assign a user a role based on their IP address or domain. Looking through the Zope book this seemed fairly straightforward but I can't get it to work. The folder I am doing this in is one up from the root level, so I can then lock things down from this folder up. This is what I did: 1. Created a new role called internalUser 2. Created a new user called anon, but didn't fill in the password fields, specified the domain as *.mydomain.com and selected the role as internalUser. 3. Created a DTML document (no security assigned) and did a <dtml-var "AUTHENTICATED_USER.getRoles()"> to see what role was being assigned. When I log into the document anonymously it still displays the role as anonymous - yes I am in the right domain. When I set the security settings to lock out anonymous but enable internalUser to view the page it still prompts for a username and password - even though I didn't specify a password. Looking at the user anon in acl_users the password field is filled even though I didn't specified password - is this normal? Strangely when I give this user a password and log in the ip/domain restriction works - there must be something going amiss somewhere.. The reason why I would like to do it this way is so that I can conditionally show/hide parts of a page based on this role just to give you some context - provided it assigns the right role based on domain/ip! If someone could provide some step by step instructions as to how they did this (I cannot for the life of me see what I'm missing) and a possible workaround perhaps using REMOTE_ADDR - I would dearly like to avoid this!
