boolean dtml solution!

First, I want to thank everyone who sent email and worked on this problem with me. I've got a solution to report! If you'll remember, the original dtml method looked like this: <dtml-in expr="_[foldername].objectValues()" sort="bobobase_modification_time" reverse> <dtml-unless "_['id']=='index_html'"> <li> <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>"><dtml-var title></a><br> </dtml-unless> </dtml-in> When I changed the unless to <dtml-unless index_hide>, it didn't work, because nothing was listed. After trying several Python scripts and other suggestions, I asked the very wise rdmurray of #zope if I should change the method completely. We'd already discussed the likelihood of this being a problem with acquisition; in reviewing my dtml method and other information further, he noticed something I'd been leaving out of my explanations. To quote: "Ok, my *guess* is that your problem arose from the fact that your index_html seems to be a DTML Document, since it has a property foldername. I'm guessing that when you tried the index_hide property experiment you naturally set index_hide on the index_html. But since it is a Document, anything called inside it acquires from it, so the hidden property got acquired." His guess was absolutely correct, and that was the problem. When I set my boolean dtml-unless, that's exactly what I'd done. Once that was figured out, the solution was easy: my index_html should always be a method, not a document. Once I corrected that, the problem was mostly fixed. I say *mostly*, because there was one thing left: with index_html now a method, I couldn't set the index_hide property on *it*, so it was showing up in my dynamic index listing. To fix this, and because I never need to list a method in my document indexes, I've excluded meta_type "DTML Method". So, here's the solution I'm now using: <UL> <dtml-in expr="objectValues()" sort="bobobase_modification_time" reverse> <dtml-if "meta_type!='DTML Method'"> <dtml-unless index_hide> <li> <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>"><dtml-var title></a><br> </dtml-unless> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </UL> Of course, one could solve this in other ways, and with a little tighter dtml, almost certainly. This solution works for me because I understand it and can modify it later if I need to. Many suggestions I got seemed great, except for being beyond my current capabilities. One of the standards I've set for my zope right now is that I not clip or use dtml or python that I don't understand well enough to modify, etc. Anyway, thanks again for all the assistance! Overriding REQUEST.form

Howdy! In order to correct mistakes in a form I need to override parameters in REQUEST.form. E.g. a user types a wrong text in a field and I want to clear it prior to further processing. I tried (in an external method) self.REQUEST.set('whatever','') but this doesn't work (Zope 2.2.4). What can I do? Ragnar

manage_addMyZClass

Hi Gang, I've created an external method manage_addMyZClass, basing my method off http://www.zope.org/Members/tazzzzz/addZClasses . However, whenever I call this external method on an ObjectManager derived ZClass, I get the error "Error Type: AttributeError; Error Value: this" on line 8, which just happens to be: self = self.this() I know that the this() call is needed so self equals the current context of the ObjectManager on which manage_addMyZClass is being called. Is there any other way to programmatically add a ZClass defined through the ZMI? And while I'm on that topic, what are the benefits/tradeoffs between using the ZMI to define products and using Python? I recently read the "A very minumal Product" How-To (http://www.zope.org/Members/maxm/HowTo/minimal_01) and noticed that this showed how write a manage_addMyZClass method in the context of a Python based product. The only reasons I've been given about defining products in the filesystems with Python vs. using the ZMI are being able to use external editors and CVS. Neither of these reasons are compelling enough for me, so why should else I use Python? I'm just starting a another Zope based site, and I have a slew of ZClasses to define. In the other (and first Zope based site) that I created and maintain I used only the ZMI to define ZClasses, so I'm pretty familiar with the process. Also, if I decide to go with Python based products, is there any easy way to turn a ZClass defined though the ZMI into a Python product? I'm not to worried about retyping code, but I've defined some fairly large propertysheets that would be annoying to recreate if I were to start from scratch. Resource not found error

Hi I have installed Zope version2.3.3 & ZEO1.0. I have copied the Data.fs files from the old Zope installation, which is Zope2.2.4, to the "var" directory under "Instance_home" in the new Zope. After starting zope, when opening the site, it gives a "Resource not found" error with following traceback. I am using Python1.5.2. Hi folks, First, i would like to thanks all of you who provided me with the necessary help to get zope + mysql running, THANKS! I am facing a "problem": i added a mysql connection to my folder, zope is executing a begin + my query + commit. How may i stop zope from doing that. I want it only execute <my query>, nothing more, nothing else. Another problem: Just some of the query i run works when testing mysql connection. For instance, the following query does not work: select now() Looking at mysql log i saw zope exec the folloging: select now() limit 1000 How may i control how zope queries MySQL ? Authentication problems with exUserFolder

Hi all, I'm using exUserFolder to authenticate to a Postgres database. With certain clients, however, authentication information is sent only for protected pages. I have a fair amount of information that is available for anonymous users, and I use _['AUTHENTICATED_USER'] to determine whether to place things like "Edit Preferences" and the like on those pages. With Lynx, Mozilla 9.1+, and IE 5.5 (I think) the Basic Auth stuff is only sent for the protected pages. Any ideas on why this is so, and how to fix it? Thanks, -scott

ZCatalog and Folder Properties

Hi, for a number of reasons, I need the following: 1)Create instances of a ZClass, say MyClass, on a specific folder that is passaded as a parameter. 2)I have a Catalog that indexes DTMLDocuments placed on a (something) big hierarchy of folders. Besides that, some "higher" folders (not all) has two strings properties that I need to use to search those DTMLDocuments. I need something like "Search all DTMLDocuments that have <string parameters> on its content and are in <folder-property1> and <folder-property2>". The use of those folder properties is optional, I mean, you can use none, one or both properties to search. If you use none, you are going to search on the whole hierarchy of folders, otherwise, the search aplies to only part of it. You can see that what I need is to give the DTMLDocs two properties that they obtain from the folders they are placed in. What can I do? Use aquisition? Define a DTMLMethod in each "higher" folder that can return its DTMLDocs? How can I combine this kind of solution with ZCatalog searches? Regards, Rogerio Atem

Well, err, actually, for reasons I'm not entirely sure I could explain, those methods don't work in this case. I worked with a number of the fine gentlemen on #zope about the problem, and we discovered together that nothing short of the full _['id'] would work.
