It's very hard to understand most of the Zope internals for me - in spite of me being well used to object oriented programming. And it's IMHO not possible to do more than the most simple things without a understanding how Zope works - for example I had big problems in creating the most simple pyhton scripts because I can't use my standard_html_header in them, I had some expressions working inline a dtml-var but not in a python script, and so on... All pyhton expressions I used to write were subject to a extensive try and error testing... Unfortunately I had no time to read the ZDB yet, perhaps it will help me to understand more... But I'm sure all these things will get better and Zope will be a real alternative to Apache & Co. sooner or later ;-)) -- Bye, Gernot

Zope on Linux/m68k?

Is it possible to run Zope on an old Mac IIci under Linux/m68k or MacBSD, OpenBSD or NetBSD/mac68k? I have this machine and would like to use it as a learning environment. Thanks, Virgil

Updating Zclass object titles

Hello all, I am trying to edit an instance of a ZClass to update the title. I am using the dtml- <dtml-call "doc.propertysheets.Basic.manage_changeProperties(REQUEST)"> where this is in the submit form of a HTML form, with "title" as a field. This will update all properties except the title. I have l also tried directly updating it by calling <dtml-call "doc.propertysheets.Basic.manage_changeProperties(title=new_title)"> I have tried trapping exceptions, and neither of these calls raise one. So does anybody know what's the deal? Sherman

"@" in object id's : invalid

Hello, It seems that valid characters for zope id's are only : chars, numbers, "," "." and spaces. I'm wondering how I can store emails adress as valid zope object id's. I'd like to setup a simple list of emails stored as dtml docs with the emails as id. as "@" are invalid characters for zope id, I currently have no other solution than replacing those with "," which is not totally nice imho ;-) (i tried using "%40" but it's invalid too) Does anyone have an idea for my little problem ? Cataloging zclass problem

Hi zopistas, I have (had) a slight problem here concerning getting zclasses in a catalog with zope 2.3.1 to 2.3.3. I have a folderish (catalog-aware) zclass whose content is in a dtml-method (named content). I have added a python script which renders my content for indexing via: return(render(context.content(context))) I got the follwing error (pulled out of medusa_monitor for better verbosity) on some (a third) of all zclasses. The funny thing is that just certain character-combination seem to trigger this error. For instance I could trim the index content down to the two characters (fi) and got the above error. CatalogQuery-0.1 not showing in the drop-down menu

Hello I just installed the CatalogQuery-0.1, and restarted zope, there were no errors nor tracebacks. BUT, I don't seem to be able he product from the drop-down menu as is not in the options to select from. This is my setup: Zope Version Zope 2.3.3 (source release, python 1.5.2, linux2) Python Version 2.1 (#1, Jun 6 2001, 14:18:24) [GCC 2.95.2 19991024 (release)] There was similar problems, before with ZMySQLDA and ZGadfly, where both Products ware shown as installed, but were unavailable in the drop-down menu. here is the link of the solution, i think http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-June/092803.html Norman

Very long URLs

I have a problem I cannot find out how to sort it out. In my system I end up having very long urls. Due to the characteristics of our system many parameters are passed via links and the contents of those parameters are quite long by themselves. I try to make the target of my link get the parameters but without these parameters being part of the URL. So when I click on the link the values are available to the new accessed document. I have tried <dtml-var "myDTMLDocument(_.None, rg1=arg1,...,argn=argn)"> But in the context of what I am doing I think it is not a valid way of doing it. <a href="<dtml-var "myDTMLDocument(_.None, arg1=arg1,...,argn=argn)">">SomeText</a> Any ideas? That said, does anyone know how to form a link to a binary (word file) so that it opens the document via the web folder instead of downloading the file? That way, assuming the user has web folders installed, they don't have to think too hard about what they have to do to get their changes back up to the server. MSAccess

If I'm going to be able to use Linux and Zope as my intranet site and crack the Microsoft stronghold, I need to access my MsAccess databases from Zope in Linux. Is this possible? I'm struggling with mxODBC in conjunction with iODBC. not having much luck. Are there any zopish alternatives. -mjm
