What are membership services then? Regarding the remote method - Duh! Yes, of course (brain spasm - obviously the word remote threw me off the scent...) One other thing I did run into is that roles in my user source are a separate table with a foreign key back to the username, rather than space-separated as a column in the user table - for that reason, the default SQL user source wouldn't work for me (since as it happens I do store the crypt in the table at the moment - so near and yet so far). I probably could have done a fiendish CREATE VIEW... but I had about ten minutes of downtime to get the site from 2.3 to 2.4.1! I'll take a look at it again in a test setup. I don't see how you can claim that it's a lot of work, it doesn't seem to be any more work than providing a method for LoginManager. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to shove XUF down your throat, I'm just concerned you have the wrong idea. Performance of dtml-in and ZCatalog

Hi I'm having performance problems with Zope 2.4.0. I migrated from 2.3.2 (don't know wether the performance there was better). My system runs on Solaris-Intel with a 1Ghz processor and 512Mb RAM (I'd say that quite a big system). I use Apache for the Virtual Hosting and SSL encryption. When I have large dtml-in's or a ZCatalog (about 2000 Items) search then it takes quite a while for the response. This would not be so bad if it were not for all other user-sessions freezing up aswell. I can't see any tuning possibilities on the programming / frontend side. My guess is, that it has something to do memory allocation (zope desn't use all of the 512Mb although it could) or that there are not enough treads,.... I have no clue of where to look. Maybe somebody has had simmilar experiences. With that kind of hardware Zope should be able to handle at least 20 conurrent users. As is I don't stand a chance. So please HELP! Thanx! Editing with FTP access

Hello, I tried to edit dtml code on Windows/UltraEdit. side-effect of dtml-if

Hi, I just ran into something which might be a surprising side effect of dtml-if - well, for me at least. Tried it on two different zope 2.3.3 installs. Here's the problem dtml-method foo should be changed, but it might not exist, so we test it <dtml-if foo> <dtml-call "foo.manage_edit('bar','')"> </dtml-if> Surprisingly this gives the following error Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: 'string' object has no attribute 'manage_edit' Without the dtml-if block it certainly works. title_or_id and other things also won't work. Where does this string object named foo come from? PS: Yes, I know that there are other ways to do the above. cheers, oliver
