I didn't have time to look into the issue further, but I have now, and I'm sorry to say it still doesn't work. This is probably due to my ignorance, but I fail to understand how this works. The version <dtml-if "REQUEST.has_key('foo') or REQUEST.has_key('bar')"> doesn't work for me because neither foo nor bar are in the REQUEST, they are simply dtml methods that may be in the current folder, or they may be not. How do I test for that? Why does the method I'm using for one object (see above) not work for more than one object? Is that simply syntactically inconsistent or am I missing something? Now, as to hasattr(), I simply don't see what to do with that. I tried <dtml-if "_.hasattr('foo') or _.hasattr('bar')"> after a while which tells me I need to use three arguments, but not what those are. I also tried <dtml-if "objectValues().hasattr('foo')"> which I simply find logical, but it also does not work. This is certainly all stupid. I tried searching zope.org for all keywords involved and found thousands of pages that use these keywords themselves (is that really what fulltext search is about?). Where in the world (or on the web, rather) is there some clear documentation that has information on those topics? I have been using Zope for more than a year now (in case you were already wondering :-), I have 15 years of programming experience, and I'm stunned all the time by how difficult and unintuitive everything Zope seems to be as soon as I look under the hood. Zope won't start: "Protocol wrong type for socket"

I have recently upgraded my zope installation. I use redhat 7.0 but will a number of packages from rawhide to bring me a bit more up to date. Kernel 2.4.3 Zope 2.4.1 python 2.1.1 I have tried both zserver and pcgi using the packages from http://www.taupro.com/Downloads/Zope/ Zope fails to start with the following message Sep 21 01:08:50 CO3011387-A z2[4335]: Startup exception : error: (91, 'Protocol wrong type for socket') So I did a little investigation and found that the following command /usr/bin/env python2.1 z2.py -u zope -z /usr/share/zope -Z /var/run/zwatchdog.pid -w 8080 -f 8021 -m '' -D -l /var/log/zope >> /var/log/zope 2>&1 & returns ------ 2001-09-24T03:44:38 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception Traceback (innermost last): File z2.py, line 606, in ? Setting and retrieving a list of linked objects

Hi people, My problem is this: I have a ZClass "article". I´m trying to make each article instance show a menu list of "related articles" that will display the title of each target instance as the link to it. i.e.: Related articles <a href="www.mysite.com/path_to/article1">Article One's Title</a> <a href="www.mysite.com/other/path_to/another/article1">Another Article One's Title</a> <a href="www.mysite.com/other/path_to/article2">Article Two's Title</a> Problems: - I don't want the link being the target article's path stored in a variable as it will be easily broken (and I will have to learn how to retrieve an object's property out of its path, anyway). - I can't simply store the id of the object as this object may not be found in the acquisition path and it might be duplicated, so I will need to store its context too. Any idea? PS.: OK, let's make an unique id for each instance, if this helps.

DTML to ZPT Question

I have a DTML to ZPT question that the Zope Guru Community could probably easily answer. I am converting an index_html DTML Method to a Page Template, and the method/template renders the contents of the Folder in a directory-listing way (iterating over .objectValues([]). There is a particular folder that I have unchecked the 'Acquire View Permission' on the security tab, and the DTML version of index_html always seemed to pop up the login dialog... which is what I want... but the ZPT version of index_html errors with the stack trace shown at the end of this message. Do I have to explicitly bring up the login dialog myself when using ZPT to iterate over objects the user does not have authorization for? ZMirror Alternatives...

Hi list, I'm playing around with the 'ZMirror' product. It works quite fine, but it doesn't seem to 'mirror' css stylesheets right if there not defined "inline" but linked with "<LINK rel=...>. Another bug I ran in is that Zmirror doesn't change the links to use the pages on the filesystem if they are generated by a dtml-method. Did anyone have this problems yet? Are there some good alternatives for ZMirror besides wget? TIA Karsten

[Q]Requesting Help for Zope install

I feel like an idiot, but I just can't get zope running on a RH7.1 linux box, no matter what permissions I set for the var directory or its contents, and whether or not I install as root, or -u nobody, etc., etc., etc.. It runs from the command line, but not from /etc/rc.d/init.d/... If I start using the Control Panel, the control panel screws up (can't close window). chkconfig doesn't work. I've run out of options, and worse, I got this going once before, and, of course, kept no notes. Can someone definitively give me a hand? Thanks Carl David david(a)uconnvm.uconn.edu

copy/paste python product not working

I am building several python products. exUserFolder and PAM - caching?

Beware - the usRemoteAuthMethod in particular will need a proxy role that can run the external method, since the logging in user doesn't have any roles... 14a) Give the appropriate proxy roles to each python script so it can be executed in the context of a logging-in user 15) Create the /etc/pam.d/zope file with the appropriate PAM configuration 16) Remove permissions for Anonymous on the folder so that you have to login 17) Copy your test folder (parent of the exUserFolder) to somewhere safe in case it's going to go wrong 18) Batch rename the x_* method to remove the leading x_ 19) Try logging in - watch /var/log/messages to see the output of the PAM module The one problem is that the usRemoteAuthMethod gets called on every page request, it isn't cached, which means for remote auth methods (e.g. Kerberos/LDAP/SMB PAM modules) the load might be quite high. Any ideas, let me know.
