Best performances setup ?

Hi, I recently discovered Zope, and a few questions came to my mind... - what is the best performance setup for Zope : is it better to use only a native ZServer or Apache with PCGI mode ? What are the benefits of each mode (security,...) ? - how many objects can the Zope database containt without any huge loss of performances ? Is there a file size limit for this database ?? Just a hint, in germany there's http://www.hostsharing.net/ (german only, google might give an idea) It's a "Genossenschaft", they use a certain juristical construct to build a community where everyone pays an entry fee and monthly fees, but owns part of the whole thing. Perhaps they would even be willing to set up zope in exchange for manpower. Or it's possible to adapt the idea for an eurozope hosting. They use debian iirc. cheers, oliver

A little more data. I ran strace on the startup script. The failure seems to arise from trying to open a socket connection to /dev/log. See below. I verified that /dev/log is world writable. And lsof and netstat report that syslogd has the socket open. Importing HappyDoc

list summaries?

I've played a little bit with zope, and recently decided to start figuring out how I would make it work for a real project. So I subscribed to this list, and also the CMF and Announce lists. And was quickly swamped by the amount of email.(of which there is a lot, much of which is very very specific to one person's problems) I've been on the list for 2 days now, and I've managed to save about 20 messages, or conversations, which I'm really glad to have seen, and read, and deleted what must have been hundreds of others. So I was wondering, does anyone do a summary for these lists? A summary like the Daily Python(http://www.pythonware.com/daily/), or eclectic (http://weblogs.userland.com/eclectic/) for XML-DEV Another project I've involved in that has a huge number of high traffic mailing lists, has one dedicated only to sending out summaries of other lists. (http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-summaries) I'm sorry if I'm asking for a resource that everybody knows about, and already exists. And if no one is doing this? Would somebody be maybe interested in starting? It would make these lists much more approachable. getting the URL of the request....

Can anyone tell me how to get the URL that was clicked in order to get to a certain page? What I mean by this is, I have an edit contents link that points to: http://address/medicine/clinical/folder_contents (Obviously in CMF, this brings up the contents of the "clinical" directory). However, when the page is rendered, the id absolute_url is just http://address/medicine/clinical and for functional reasons, I need to know if the page was rendered with "folder_contents". Any suggestions? Thanks! Aaron.

Python 2.1.1 won't compile

Hi all, so I just decided to lear Python I wanted to install Python 2.1.1. I got the tarball from sourceforge and tried to install it. This is what happens: fileserver01:~/Python-2.1.1 # ./configure --prefix=/usr creating cache ./config.cache checking MACHDEP... linux2 checking for --without-gcc... no checking for --with-cxx=<compiler>... no checking for c++... no checking for g++... no checking for gcc... gcc checking whether the C++ compiler (gcc ) works... no configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C++ compiler cannot create executables. fileserver01:~/Python-2.1.1 # The strange thing is that I could compile Python 1.5.2 and 2.0.1 without any problems. I am using SuSE 7.1. Can anyone help me. Are there libraries missing, something like that? old instances and new versions of their classes

Is there any way to get existing instances to recognize new or changed methods (or class variables) of their classes? (I'm not interested in regular instance variables here, just methods and class variables.) I've seen a couple of mentions of the fact that instances of one of my product classes are instances of a specific version of that class, which doesn't change when I modify the class. I can also see this in the debugger, since the address shown in printouts such as: >>> a.__class__ <extension class Products.MyProduct.MyClass at 340668> changes when I reload the class. I also see that old instances don't know about new methods (or class variables) I add to the class, or even about changed definitions of methods. (The address of oldInstance.someMethod and newInstance.someMethod are different when someMethod's definition is changed and the class reloaded between creating oldInstance and newInstance.) While I'm developing, I'm creating objects from scripts, so I can always junk the whole site and recreate everything. What I'm concerned about, though, is later, as my product evolves, I'm going to want to redefine and add methods and class variables that I'll want my old instances to see. It isn't much of an object-oriented environment if there's no way to redefine the behavior of an instance's class! (What happens when new instance variables are added is a different problem, since that relates specifically to instance state, whereas methods and class variables are not stored in instances. New instance variables are a problem in any kind of object persistence.) Suggestions? Comments?

hi. I have this situation where in I have an SQL method to retrieve records. GetCountryMethod(Country,State) Country and State are the two parameters being passed to the SQL method I am trying to display them five at a time on a page.But right now after displaying 5 records it throws up Bad Request and displays the two parameter names that i had passed to the method. I understand its because these variables need to "submitted" to the same page again and again for every cycle of display.I used hidden variables but it displays the same 5 records retrieved first time and shows them again and again.
