MySQLDA and remote MySQL Server

Hello, I have a problem understanding a concept, here goes: Installed Zope 2.4.1b1 on Win NT4 Back Office Server, all works great, I have M$ Server 7 running and the Zope Server can talk to that no problems, but I also have a remote FreeBSD server running Apache, MySQL and Zope 2.4.1b1 on this machine MySQL can happily talk to the Zope on this machine or to any other server that has MySQL installed on. So my problem is how to install ZMySQLDA on the NT4 box without having to install MySQL Server on this box as well? Is there a way to compile MySQL-python on the NT4 box or should I just copy this module from the FreeBSD box onto the NT4 box?! Many thanx Norman

Zope not seeing my standard_html_header (was: Newbie list)

You are in the <b><dtml-var getId></b> section.</p> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Viewing this, I have two problems. Firstly, the <dtml-var getId> is rendered as 'index_html', whereas I was expecting to see 'zoo', the name of the folder. Secondly, the navigation stuff from the standard_html_header is missing altogether. Any ideas? Problems with Zcatalog

Hi, I have a problem with the ZCatalog. When I try to Update the Catalog or index all the objects , Zope give to me this: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, root(a)domain.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. I have 8000 words indexed. What's going on? Thanks

IOError using Zope

Hi there, since I upgraded to Zope 2.4.1 and Python 2.1.1 I often get an IOError The only thing to get rid of it once it started to pop up is to restart Zope. Thank you very much Lynn and Dieter. Yes I needed to dig a little further into the ZPT, as I was only experimenting with TAL. Well I've tried to implement some of the Macro examples but they always end up with the following error: Error Type: METALError Error Value: macro 'here/master' has incompatible version None, at line 1, column 1 I place both the "definition" and "use" templates in the same folder. If I insert a blank line in the template that uses the Macro, the error says line 2, column 1. I've done an exact copy of the Macro examples - both with and without namespaces. What's wrong ? ZMI: find does not work for products

ZMI find fails to locate text in ZClasses. The following dialog fails when invoked from root folder (or Products folder, or given ZClass folder), even though "my_method" is there. Find objects of type: All types Containing: my_method ZMI find works ok everywhere else, except for ZClasses. Tested on Zope 2.4.1. -- Milos Prudek

Hello all, Since their seems to a lot of speculation why we stopped providing Zope Hosting I'd like to clear some things up and also answer some other questions brought up during this thread. In the early days of Zope (when it became Open Source) we fell in love with the software. We did everything we could to learn how to use it and spent a lot of time visiting companies who we thought should be using this software. In some cases we were also approached by fortune 500 companies about building Zope solutions. In some cases these companies were willing to take "a risk" and contracted work out to us in other cases they told us that the infrastructure was not in place to make Zope a viable platform to work with. That hurt! All companies complained about a lack of Zope infrastructure: What was this infrastructure? - Zope Hosting - Documentation - Training and by extension not enough developers who knew how to work with Zope. What did beehive do? We became the first European Zope Hosting provider. We became the first commercial documentation provider. We were the first company in Europe to offer Zope Training and currently offer regular training sessions in Berlin (Germany), Paris (France), Washington D.C. (USA). I would like to stress that our motivations were: 1. to train our own rapidly growing development team 2. to prove that Zope was viable technology worth investing in / and foster community growth 3. figure out what services we really enjoyed providing (money isn't everything) Our conclusion so far is: * Zope Hosting isn't our thing* Plenty other companies all over the world are providing this service for the most up-to-date list please see: http://www.zope.org/Resources/ZSP * Documentation is our thing * I'll never forget the first Python conference that had a Zope track and how many people complained about the lack of documentation. beehive had the same problem but we were documenting how to do things with Zope for internal use -- it was here that we decided we needed to take a risk and pay an editor to professionally edit our ebooks. We offered our documentation for a symbolic price and were amazed to see how many people across the world were using Zope and were interested in this service. The word 'many' here is relative. We were doing low volume publishing and you can take my word for this -- we have so far not made a profit. Breaking even is would be nice but we are convinced that without our efforts the Zope market as a whole would be deemed a little less viable. And for those complaining about 30 DM or 90 DM prices for our documentation -- when you take a look at how many hours, days and months we invest to produce our documentation and you buy one of our your not even paying for an hour of our time (at our hourly rate)! We need to stress that we *love* constructive criticism on how we can improve our doc efforts. Even if we don't always respond to every mail -- we read it and discuss it at our E&P meetings. A big beehive hug to all those who have done so in the past. Regarding our books in print (1 out - 2 to go) if your concerned about spending double digit DM or $ wait till the book comes out go to a bookstore grab a chair and read a bit. zcatalog and versions

Can somenone briefly explain what exactly gets locked in zope 2.3,3's catalog when it tries to index an object which is hold in a version? The whole catalog? I found some answers which indicate that it has to do with the catalog when we see version lock errors where there shouldn't be any (from a naive pov), but I would like to know how far reaching these problems are, because when doing a rewrite of that application, I might be able to work around that. Do these problems still persist in zope 2.4.x? cheers, oliver

RE HELP -> Non-Transaction Tables couldn't be rolled back

Hi Brian If I remember correctly I had this problem last week, and Andy Dustman who helped us out in the Zope-DB list had this solution... If your using the ZMySQL database adapter, start your conection string with a "-". This disables transactions :-) so -database(a)server.domain username password ..... Putting a space after the - caused problems... Anyway hope that helps ;-) ChrisK
