INFORMATION BILL OF RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Freedom to Speak. We have the right to create an information service and determine its rules and regulations subject only to the copyright, intellectual property rights, and tax rules in our geopolitical location. We have the responsibility to honor the rules and regulations of any information service that we connect to. 2.Freedom to Listen. Adults have the right to connect to any publically released information service. We are responsibile for how we use that information. 3.Copyright Use. When we purchase a copyrighted work, we are free to copy it to any medium and enjoy it from that medium, for our own personal use. We have the right to transfer our rights in a particular work, to another individual, but then we loose our rights to that work. We have the responsibility to ensure that the copyright work we purchased is not otherwise distributed. 4.Secure Communications. We have the right to secure and private information channels. We have the responsibility to not abuse those information channel. Unsolicited commercial email, pop up adds, and denial of service attacks are some of the existing abuses. 5.Privacy. We have the right to privacy of our information. Our personal information is our asset, and may not be used without our explicit approval. After our approval is given, we are free to withdraw it at any time. We have the responsibility to respect the privacy of other peoples information. 6.Weapons of Mass Destruction. We have the right to publish information about weapons of mass destruction, but that information may be used to harm innocent individuals, so we have the responsibility to track who gets access to that information, and to preserve that contact information for possible future judicial seizure. 7.Proportional Representation. On issues of governance, we have the right to vote directly, or to assign our vote to a representative, but in either case proportional representation will be preserved. 8.Judicial Search, Seizure. Our rights to private and secure information storage and communication may only be removed by a judicially approved search warrent, executed for probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the communication channel, service or medium to be searched, and the information to be seized. That search warrent needs to be approved in the same geopolitical location where the information is stored or where one end of the communications channel exists. 9.Interruption of service. Our rights to connect to a service can only be forfeit with a judicial judgement by a court with authority in the location of the service. Such a judgement may only be made for violating the terms and conditions of the service provider, or for irresponsibly using that information to commit a crime, but under no circumstances for just accessing that information. 10.Shared Enforcement. Everyone who is covered by this bill of rights has the responsibility to use their sphere of control to ensure that these rights and responsibilities are followed. Copyright © 1998-2001 by BPG.

Hi all. I want to apologize up front because I have seen a lot of previous questions about logging in using LoginManager, CookieCrumbler, etc., but I'm not sure if they do what I need and I don't really understand some of what I read. It seems to me that a user can log on by a form and be authenticated by LoginManager, for example. But that only gives them a role (I believe), let's say authorized_user. But, what I need is a way to remember WHO they are, not just what role they have. I'm very new to both Zope and web design in general, so any help would be appreciated. A large part of my problem right now is that I don't even know what questions to ask. My general situation is this: 1. I'm going to be storing user information in a database. 2. I have to be able to let the appropriate user securely access that information, which means I'll need a user id or something like that to pull the data out of the database. I talked to someone with some experience in web development who uses ColdFusion and he said that he gets the correct information from the user database to authenticate, and then sets a session variable user_id (from the database) which he can use to access the database. I apologize again for the indirect approach of this question. I just want to know if there is some standard way to handle this. If someone can point me in the right direction (i.e. "research this and that") I'm more than willing to go off and do the research. What I've seen so far is the possibility of using something like LoginManager with CoreSessionTracking, but I'm not sure if that's what I need. string to DTML

How do I convert a string to a DTML object? I have a string property which contains DTML. I would like to render it. Something like <dtml-var "_.getitem('property',1)"> however because the object is a string I simply get the exact string. I would like to convert it to a dtml object or interpret it as if it were DTML. Thanks Tom

Failure with proxy role

First, thanks for reading this email. I am using 2.4.0 on Linux. I have created a user defined role in a folder, and have tried to set a python script with this role as a proxy role. It doesn't work. Proxy Roles work with user defined roles ??? Here is the error (I am the manager): pd. I have the same error changing the role to "Owner", but not "Anonymous", "Authenticated", "Manager". You are not authorized to change createtoken because you do not have proxy roles. zope product making: attribute error, value=globals

Propertymanager

Hi there... I'd like to create a ZClass, which is supposed to have the behavior of both, Objectmanager and Propertymanager but I don't want it to inherit from the Folder class. The Problem is once I create a new ZClass in my Product I can choose ZClasses: Objectmanager as a baseclass but I can't choose Propertymanager as a base class. Is there any way to aviod this problem? testing for property

I am trying to write a script that upgrades instances of a class. I have added new properties to my python product Class and I wish to run a method to check the old instances and add properties if necessary. I find that when I use the hasProperty('propname') method it always returns true. It appears that this method checks the 'Class' and not the actual 'Instances' for the existance of a property. So if I upgrade my class, I cant use this method to check for instances that are missing properties. Is this true?? It appears I have to actually raise an error to check for a property try: print instance.property else: instance.property='' This seems a bit silly. Am I doing anything wrong here Tom

Giving Permission

Hi; If I want to give a client permission to access a folder within a virtual host as a manager, what URL do I use? For example, if I want to enter the root folder of the virtual host, it's http://www.virtualhost.com:8080/manage but apparently http://www.virtualhost.com:8080/a_folder/manage doesn't work.
