__getitem__ method in ZClass?

If this particular product was a python based one, I could easily add a def __getitem__(self, key) method to my class so that one would be able to go: <dtml-var "MyProductClassInstance['somekey']"> In a ZClass I can't add a Python Script called __getitem__ because of the underscores. Any solutions to this? Peter

Zope Catalog Update

Ahh, it's the old _.None thing. When you call a dtml method from dtml using the "expr" syntax, you have to pass it the namespace, which is done like this: <dtml-var expr="fixDate(_.None, _, date=item_date)"> Alternately, you can do it like this (without expr): <dtml-let date="item_date"> <dtml-var name="fixDate"> </dtml-let> or of course <dtml-var expr="REQUEST.set(date, item_date)"> <dtml-var name="fixDate"> If none of these look very nice to you, you might want to rewrite the fixDate method as a python script, which can be called without the hassles above. -Paul D. FTP Problems

Can anybody tell me why: 1. I get FTP error periodically from Dreamweaver 4, w/o anything being registered in the Z2.log (but it did connect earlier today w/o problems). 2. Ncftp client on Linux times out when I connect to Zope. Z2.log file registers as follows: <some_ip>44024 ==> 220 hrdhhs34 FTP server (Medusa Async V1.18 [experimenta <some_ip>44024 <== USER thawes <some_ip>44024 ==> 331 Password required. <some_ip>44024 <== PASS <password> <some_ip>44024 ==> 230 Login successful. <some_ip>44024 <== PWD <some_ip>44024 ==> 257 "/" is the current directory. <some_ip>44024 <== FEAT <some_ip>44024 ==> 500 'FEAT': command not understood. <some_ip>44024 <== HELP SITE and there is nothing (session times out). 3. I can telnet to Zope at the FTP port and issue ftp commands with no problem (indicating to me that there is NO problem w/ Zope, just with clients). 4. I can edit documents just fine using Emacs 21 and ftp, except when I try to save, Emacs informs me that the "Macro key terminated by command sounding the bell". If I try to resave, it tells me that no changes had occurred and there is no need to save, but upon observation, the document had not been saved, and emacs informs me that the document has been changed on the server, am I sure I want to edit it? I am about to rip my hair out over this!

Hi all I've tried everything that I can imagine to convince my *#~!!& SUN Solaris to do Zope/Python with multitasking / threading / LWP /... NO CHANCE!!!! After about 6+ Months of on & off trying I'm giving up. I'll install my test and production system on xxxBSD or Linux (even NT runns without problems!). It's probably easier to convince my ISP of adopting Linux than finding a patch! So to all Solaris hosts out there good luck, you'll need it! The problem lies in the conjunction of the systems. Solaris, Python and Zope just dont mix with Solaris threading. My production system runs faster on my laptop on Win2k -with multitaskig- than on my high power SUN 19" rack with 4 Processors an 4GB RAM! On that note I'll just go and believe that Solaris is the wrong thing to do when thinking about Zope!! Best regards Oliver Erlewein

caching time-outs?

I understand how the RAM Cache Manager works, I think, but what I need is something slightly different, in a couple of ways: * I'd like a cache manager that I can install in the root folder, and have it apply to the whole site (or in any folder, applying to all folder contents, including sub-folders, etc.) * I'd like to be able to cache things but have the cached elements "time out" after N minutes. Clearly, I'm not worrying about correctness, but simply efficiency. Basically, I don't care if it takes N minutes before a user sees a given change to the site (it's fairly static). Any chance? Do You have Oracle Client tools installed on the box that Zope is running on? I'm pretty sure that the Zope DA will need to know what and where the database you are trying to connect to is located. This information is usually supplied to Oracle Client tools via a file called tnsnames.ora. I'd recommend searching Oracle site for client tools for linux. stack error with Python 2.1.2

Hi, I tried to move to Python 2.1.2 with an existing site and got a stack error under some circumstances. The site provides five different websites distinguished by Virtual Site Root. The error: python: Python/ceval.c:687: eval_code2: Assertion `(stack_pointer - f->f_valuestack) <= f->f_stacksize' failed. I found some places where this is mentioned, mostly explained with illegal bytecode. Because I removed all bytecode and shared libraries before recompiling Zope and the C extensions I dont't assume that this is the case. The interesting part is: the site which was defined first (using VSR) is accessible. Every other site fails. Also the navigation frame in the management interface fails while the content frame works without problems. The Python interpreter is the (first and) only one on the system so interferences with other Python installations are not possible. The configure line for Python: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local --with-crypt --without-pymalloc --with-threads Additionally I enabled SSL for the socket module. I hope someone can reproduce this. I am not able to do debugging for this myself. I will switch back to Python 2.1.1. Regards, Frank

Upgrade Zope 2.1.1 to Current - Suggestions???

I Would like to Upgrade my Zope installation to current version. Would like the best set of instructions available. I found this document: http://www.zope.org/Members/mcdonc/HowTos/zopeinstall/ZOPE-INSTALL-HOWTO would it be best to follow these instructions? Is there anything I should look out for, any gotcha's?
