Yes, it was a large thread and as far as I've read, with no comsecuences. So taking into account all the considerations I'll call my patch temporarily a not hot, not cold, hopefully cool, "ProductExtension", because it is what it is, isn't it. :) So, here we are again: -------------------------------------------- Hello Zope fans For those of you wanting to use IPTC and EXIF metadata embedded in images from news agencies or similars, I've uploaded a ProductExtension to the Photo Product 1.2.3 , that performs the following: - Allows reading of IPTC and EXIF info from JPEG and TIFF files. - Uses PIL as core parser to provide limited support for other image formats like BMP, TGA, TIFF, PSD, PCX, EPS. - Creates displays (in jpeg) for those new supported formats, when possible. Thanks to Fredrik Lundh and Robert F. Tobler for the core readers, and thanks to Ron Bickers for the Photo Product. I'd like you to consider these as default features for a future release of Photo. Hello Zope fans For those of you wanting to use IPTC and EXIF metadata embebbed in images from news agencies or similars, I've uploaded a hotfix to the Photo Product 1.2.3 , that performs the following: - Allows reading of IPTC and EXIF info from JPEG and TIFF files. - Uses PIL as core parser to provide limited support for other image formats like BMP, TGA, TIFF, PSD, PCX, EPS. - Creates displays (in jpeg) for those new supported formats, when possible. the code <dtml-var" _.getattr(REQUEST,'textortitle','') and x"> produces a traceback in 2.43b1 Error type: KeyError Error value: textortitle however it works fine in 2.5 is there a remedy ?? Robert www.redcor.ch

new to zope: security question

I am new to Zope and trying to set up a role that restricts access to certain object types. I was able to set up the desired security, but, but when I tried to restrict access to particular documents that the role still had access to, the role was no longer able to access the management screens. Furthermore, I have not been able to reset this security setting. Specifically, when I restricted access to the management screen for the index_html at the root level, the role was blocked not only from root level management screens, but from all sub folder management screens as well. Resetting the security to the index_html file has not solved the problem. I have searched the Zope web site for more information, but havent been able to find anything pertaining to this. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I might be missing? ZCatalog help

Greetings Zopistas! I'm currently working on a site which requires that I store City, State and Country entries in a hierarchy such that multiple cities can roll up under a state and multiple states can roll up under a country. To accomplish this, I have a created a small python product called LocationManager which stores data as follows: USA Massachusetts Boston Lexington Concord Illinois Chicago Evanston California Los Angeles San Diego Canada Quebec Montreal etc What i would like to do is use a Catalog to flatten that data out and enable me to retrieve all of the cities in one fell swoop. I've read over the ZCatalog tutorial and have searched zope.org, and I think I see how to catalog properties of products. However, I haven't really found anything that describes: a) How to build a python product that is catalog aware? b) How do i retrieve the data from the catalog without a search interface? URLs to any resources, or any answers to my questions would be MOST appreciated. Thanks so much, Keith R. Alperin

I imported your image, created the following DTML Method <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2><dtml-var title_or_id> <dtml-var document_title></h2> <p> <dtml-var expr="_.getitem('01').desc"> </p> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> and viewed it. Of course, I saw the description. I can see 2 potential problems causing your failure: 1. Your image's name is valid in URL's and DTML but not in Python expressions (where you are inside "..."). Inside Python, "01" is not an object but the integer 1 (the leading "0" is intepreted as "octal number"). Integers do not have attributes. The "_.getitem" above accepts arbitrary names and looks them up transparently in the DTML namespace. (read the "Name lookup section" in <http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html> when your want to learn more about namespaces and lookup). 2. Where you use "pic.desc", there may be "dtml-with" active (to facilitate access to the "largspics"). In this case, your "pic" may be the large image, not the thumbnail. In this case, you would probably use a nested "dtml-with" to access your thumbnail. I expect, your problem is 1. Dieter
