I realize that this has been discussed here before but I was not able to find the information needed. I've tried the ZOPE_SECURITY_POLICY=PYTHON trick to no avail. The sympton is that zope restarts for some reason and when it restarts, it cannot import the ZMySQLDA product.... Lets say one creates a Zclass product 'foo'. How add 'foo' using the object manager. Example: <dtml-call "manage_addFolder('home_page','home_page')"> adds a folder How do I add foo <dtml-call "manage_addfoo('foo','foo')"> doesn't work Chris

wondering how people tackle this in Zope

Hi, People want to make here some teaching files, which can be read from any PC. So they were told to use html. and to use a database to make references to pages... But they don't have any knowledge of html, etc! They work with MSWord etc... Now, I'm wondering how this can be done in a more object manner... but I've problems to find out how much 'object-oriented' I've to work... The teaching files consist of pages with text and images. The amout of text boxes and images can be different. I don't know, but probably the best way is just to use html for the layout? Or is there a better way? Inside these pages would also be now and then links which go to another page... is there a way to not hard-code this link? Problably with using the catalog and search for content. Which experience to most people have to catalog such dtml_document or ZPT? do you use seperate objects for keywords, etc..? Or so you just catalog the whole document? Now, they will use html, but aren't there better ways, which give nice results as well? ie the use of structured text, or something else? Or would converting the word documents to pdf and then put these pdf's as objects inside zope? Do people have experience it this? Thanks, Tom.

Referencing properties of child items

I have a small application that is attempting to populate a portion of a page with the value of a property that belongs to a child item. I have passed the ID of the child item into the dtml page that is handling the request and can properly render the child item ( a jpeg) but cannot seem to extract a text property from the child item and have it display. I am calling the dtml like this: http://localhost:8080/photoAlbum/xxx/yyy/test_html?pic=01 where the pic value represents the id of the picture I want to display. Each pic has a property named "desc" that contains some text I want to display. I have tried numerous things but can't seem to get to the property value. Can anyone offer a solution? Thanks, Kevin

Thanks for the reply and the link. What made me think this was possible was lines 673-675 in the page you gave the link to: "The module function Timezones() will return a list of the timezones recognized by the DateTime module. Recognition of timezone names is case-insensitive." Virtual Host Moster w/ Apache.

hi, I have some virtual hosts behind an Apache proxy, I use Apache so I can have unique log files for each site. But some times I get urls that look like: /domain/domain/domain/file In the root folder of Zope I have a 'domain' folder for each domain we hosts. It's probably some combination of a SiteRoot or Apache's rewrieing. Below is one of my apache VirtualSites. Thanks Dieter, That information is very helpful and it sounds like you hit it on the nail. I had downloaded the ZMySQLDA product off the zope.org site, I didn't realize this was an ancient version (1-1-3). It did in fact print a deprication error message to stdout on startup so without a terminal... Redirecting output with the nohup cmd seemed to allow the MySQLDA product to restart successfully. I've since installed the newest version of MySQLDA off sourceforge. I have faith that this will work better. This may happen, when a process is started in a terminal session and the session is later terminated (but the process is still running). An explicit redirect of stdout and stderr may help with this. The two problems are almost surely not related. By the way: did you already upgrade to Python 2.1.2 and Zope 2.4.4 or Zope 2.5? There are known memory management problems in earlier Python/Zope versions. Dieter

For an input form, I'd like to make a menu of time zones. I saw in Appendix B: API Reference of the Zope Book that there already is a DateTime module function that returns a list of timezones, so I thought I could simply use <dtml-in> to go through the list, wrapping each sequence-item with <option></option>. I tried every combination I could think of but got an error every time: <dtml-in {below}> Error Name Error Value ================= ========== =========== DateTime.Timezones KeyError DateTime.Timezones Timezones KeyError Timezones "_.Timezones()" AttributeError Timezones "DateTime.Timezones()" NameError global name 'DateTime' is not defined "_.DateTime.Timezones()" AttributeError class DateTime has no attribute 'Timezones' "DateTime[Timezones]" NameError global name 'DateTime' is not defined "_.DateTime[Timezones]" NameError global name 'Timezones' is not defined "_.DateTime._Timezones()" SyntaxError Line 2: "_Timezones" is an invalid attribute name because it starts with "_". connecting MySQL and Zope

I have made several attempts to install the ZMySQLDA database adpapter and MySQL-python database driver according to the book "Zope web applications construction kit". I am getting errors with "make" 1) In function pythonify_row assignment from incompatible pointer type. 2)In function pythonify_res_fields invalid lvalue in unary 3) In function STH_fetchdict invalid lvalue in unary I am using RedHAt 7.1 with Python 1.5.2 and 2.1 It looks like "make" is trying to use 1.5.2 instead of 2.1. I am aware that my version of Zope 2.5 bianry comes with it's own install of 2.1, but am not sure how to force it to use it for this .
