AUTHENTICATED_USER insecure. But how insecure?

"SecurityGetUser = Return the current user object. This is normally the same as the REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER object. However, the AUTHENTICATED_USER object is insecure since it can be replaced" This is something that has been confusing me, since it is never explained. How much I should worry about that REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER is changed - and is there much performance downside or something else for using the SecurityGetUser -- which goes all the way back to the Security Manager to get the user. -huima

Performance testing & tuning for Zope

Hi, I was wondering where to turn to for tips about performance tuning for Zope-sites. In general I would also be intersted about which document should be read so that the designs them selves would not require too much work from Zope. Also if you have suggestions for test-suites or programs for example load testing etc. all comments are appreciated. -huima

Issue

Hi, I have some problems with my zope application. I have Zope 2.5 running with the next specifications: HW 2 PIII 800 Mhz 1Gb RAM 1Gb Swap 26 Gb HDD SW OS RH 7.2 Python 2.1.2 Squid (for caching) But for some reason the site replay is too slow, with a "lot" of traffic, I mean site with 1,000,000 Page Views per momth. In the beginning we Attached Zope to apache, but the use of Fast-CGI, was very slow. So we put squid in front of Zope, instead of apache, for caching the pages, kepping Zope out to process every request that was made by a client, this solution raised the aceleration of the site, but not as much as we want. The site takes 3 to 5 minutes to load in a 33.600 modem, this too slow. Please help me, what can we be doing wrong? why the site is too slow? Thks Tavo

Changing the name of a python class in FTP Client directory listing

I have some custom python classes in a product that I want to be available via FTP. The problem is: Classes instances have some very beautifuls names like "3253474252.12" ... How could I send the (real) name of the documents to FTP clients? I tried to override manage_FTPlist with no success... Bonus question... I would like to create custom classes instances from FTP PUT requests, probably based on file extension. Any ideas? :)) Jeff

Creating new permissions -- outside a Product ?

I am creating a site, where I use mostly standard-components, DTML-methods, Zwiki, Kubes etc. I manage users by roles, but would like to create additional permissions. Is it possible to create permission outside any product -- or should I create a dummy-product that introduces these new permissions I want to use with my dtml-methods and PythonScripts? -huima

problem creating MySQL-python rpm: _mysql not found.

Hi, this must be a FAQ but, and maybe this is not the right list but.. I am trying to create an RPM out of MySQL-python. The README states: you *must* compile using 'Zope's python'. Ok, so what does that mean? I looked around google and it seems to mean: 'the python that z2.py is started by.' Ok, that's /usr/bin/python2.1, so I did: $ /usr/bin/python2.1 setup.py bdist_rpm and indeed, it creates an .rpm. But when I look inside that rpm, it contains /usr/lib/python1.5/site-packages/MySQLdb/*, so it uses python 1.5!! Indeed if I install the rpm (and ZMySQLDA after it) then ZMySQLDA is broken and says 'ImportError: No module named _mysql' Does anyone have experience building rpm's with python? Thanks, Ron Arts

Problems with absolute_url in my product

Zalutations! I'm running in to a problem here that probably has a simple answer: I have a class that extends ObjectManager, and that class has another ObjectManager attribute called 'data', like this: class MyChildClass( ObjectManager.ObjectManager ): def __init__(self,id): self.id = id class MyZopeClass( ObjectManager.ObjectManager ): def __init__(self): self._setObject('data', MyChildClass('data')) I have all of the add forms and constructors in place, and I can add instances of "MyZopeClass" using the ZMI. If I add one of these instances to my root folder as 'myzopeclass' then I can go to http://me:8080/myzopeclass and it just throws up the index_html from the root folder because I don't have anything defined there... But I wrote a small dtml method to show the absolute_url value for an object, and when I go to http://me:8080/myzopeclass/abs it doesn't show the correct absolute URL. (This is what is in the 'abs' dtml method) "<dtml-var absolute_url>" (that's it) Going to http://me:8080/abs gives http://me:8080/ as you would hope. Going to http://me:8080/myzopeclass/abs gives http://me:8080/ again, but that's not what I expected Going to http://me:8080/myzopeclass/data/abs gives http://me:8080// which is odd too. Is there something I'm missing that is causing the acquisition or something else to break?
