Solution: External Edit and cygwin under W2k

Here is the necessary magic to use External Editor's zopeedit.py with cygwin's python and xemacs under W2K: 1) Put zopeedit.py in your cygwin home directory (or edit the location in the zopeedit.bat file). 2) In C:/cygwin/zopeedit.bat put: @echo off C: chdir \cygwin\bin START /MIN bash --login -c '~/zopeedit.py \'%1\' & echo HI! ; sleep 10; exit' 3) In ~/.zope-external-edit put: editor=xemacs 4) Set up your web browser and/or file associations per the usual instructions to run C:\cygwin\zopeedit.bat --- Notes: 1- the escaped single quotes: Without these "C:\temp\file.ext" gets mangled to "C:tempfile.ext" before zopeedit.py gets it. It took a bit of fiddling to find this oh-so-simple solution. I also tried using pythonw and launching cygwin's xemacs from that. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to keep the filename from getting mangled that way. 2- START /MIN: there doesn't seem to be a way to prevent a command window from hanging around as long as zopeedit.py and the associated xemacs window are running. Oops, you can drop the "& echo HI! ; sleep 10; exit" part of the command. ZCatalog

Hi, is it possible to use ZCatalog as a base class for Python based products? If so, does anyone know if there any examples available, which I haven't been able to find? If not, how do one implement fast search mechanisms in Python based products? We've been thinking of using "mxm Easy Product" in our product. Does anyone have experience from it? hi guys I try to add properties to a file via dtml, without success! I get a "Authorization required" message. Can Zope OFS span filesystems?

Hi All, I've only just gotten to the point of trying to understand the Zope storage systems (i.e. ZODB, ZEO, etc), and it's not clear to me from what I've read online so far whether its possible to have a very large OFS span across multiple filesystems. I.e. can you mount sections of your Zope tree on separate disks, and if so, is it transparent to Zope? (With Unix/Linux FSs, you just buy more hard drives if you run out of space, but AFAIK, you can't actually span a file across multiple drives). Also, can you specify a raw device (e.g. /dev/hda8 ) as the storage file (in other words, treat it as if Zope were the filesystem, instead of hosting the OFS on an underlying filesystem)? (I actually haven't figured out how to change the storage at all yet, though the ZEO documentation makes it pretty clear that it can be done). I've seen solutions which try to avoid having massive content like this inside of Zope. Are they really necessary? Or could you basically use Zope as the filesystem? Any pros or cons I ought to know about? For that matter, has anyone actually run Zope with an OFS that large? It's still very academic for me, though I see a possibility of things going that way, depending on how we design. So really I'm asking "Should I try to avoid huge storage in Zope?" Keeping track of the state in python objects

Hello everyone! Being new to Zope and Python I have a few worries, unfounded or not only you can tell! Given a resultset from a db-query I would like to make python objects of the resultset, then through -Zope manipulate the objects and send them back to the database. My worry is that the objects lose themselves going through the layers Python -> Tal -> Html, then having to reconstruct the objects before putting them back in the database. What I want to do is make stable classes with given class methods as done when programming in c++ or Java. I realize that part of my ignorance is due to the fact that I know next to nothing about Python and how it interacts with Zope and HTML. sha and newbie db question.

Hi, I have 2 questions: I'm trying to replicate the following php code in zope: $code = $HTTP_POST_VARS["CODE"]; $codemd5 = md5($code); I believe that in straight python, this would be: hcode = sha.new(code).hexdigest() (because as far as I know, there's no md5 equivalent of "hexdigest"). But when I run this in a python script, which recieves such a value from a dtml method with a form in it, it complains that it's not allowed to run "new". I'm sorry if this is a well known security restriction, and the page of the zope book or of some manual to get around it would be enough for me thanks! Second problem is a lot easier: I've looked at the relational database chapter of the zope book, but have not found exactly how to do a call to a zsql method from within a python script. Is there somewhere where I can get examples of the dtml/python script code behind a database backed website? The code in particular wouldn't be to display something, but for operations such as inserting, deleting, cacheing queries, storing variables, etc. Thanks so much! Problem with ZServer

I´m having problems with zope 2.5.1 on W98 when crashes, the light is off, or not correctly shutdown. After that, I start the zserver but when I try to log in, the server crashes because of an error in logger.py in line 65, in maybe_flush, bad file descriptor. I lose my work and have to reinstall Zope. I tried to make something, removing temp and index datafs, z2.log, but only breach to log in in the server, but if i try adding or modifing objects, i recieve the same error. ¿Whats the problem?.¿Bug?. ¿Am i doing something wrong?
