Python Product doesn't appear in Products list in Control Panel

I've just written a new on-disk Product, only it doesn't appear in the control panel products listing. I've got a ZEO server and client setup - I've tried having the product in both the client SOFTWARE_HOME lib dir and its own personal Products dir. The initialize() gets called in both cases, but the product doesn't appear in the products listing. There's no errors displayed on server or client startup. Anyone got a hint or clue to spare? Digest Auth or SSL?

Hi everyone, I'm wondering what experiences people have had trying to implement digest authentication or SSL on their Zope sites. Here's my situation: I have ZServer proxied by Apache. Areas of our site are password-protected and require a valid user. Unfortunately, this authentication is Basic and cleartext usernames/passwords are sent. Obviously less than ideal. At present, acceptable, since our website user database is independent from our actual user accounts for the lab in which we work. Some day, I would like to get Zope to use LDAP for user authentication - but there is no way that could happen unless authentication for the website was seriously secure. There is some third-party IP in our lab and NDAs aside, they generally don't like to find gaping security holes in our system. I understand Digest has some definite shortcomings and to my knowledge, isn't even implemented in Zope. But with HTTPS, I have another problem. Specifically, not all of the site is password-protected. I don't want every visitor using HTTPS to browse the site. I only want secure authentication for password-protected areas of the site. So when a user goes to www.mysite.com/private, he will be authenticated securely. Any suggestions or pointers would be much appreciated... thanks Paul. -- horbal(a)atips.ca

get created date for objects (folders & dtml docs)

I'm trying to write a script to get the date created for all objects (folders & dtml docs) So I can then sort by most recent date and output that...(i.e. 3 most recent dtml docs created from 4 different folders)

how to return a new object from a pythonscript ?

Hi, I have a python-script getArtikel, which return items from a ZPatterns-Rack, like so: item=context.getItem("theItemId") return item this works fine, now I want to override some of the attributes of the item: item=context.getItem("theItemId") setattr(item.text,item.text_english) # the attribute text_english exists return item but that results in an error: attributeless object assign or del. I solved that problem by creating a dictionary, and "copying" the attributes into it. but now - of course - my python expressions python: here.getArtikel.date.strftime('%d.%m.%Y') in the pagetemplates complain that there is no attribute "date", and I have to change all those attribute references to here.getArtikel['date'].strftime('%d.%m.%Y') I know that I cannot change object-attributes in scripts. Is there a simple solution for this ? Or is it simply not possible ? ZPT + ZSQL?

Probably a newbie question, but couldn't find the answer on zope.org... I'd like to use ZPT with data in a relational db. ZSQL methods use dtml vars, so I'm wondering: . Is ZSQL the only/recommended method for ZPT access to a relational DB? . Any tutorials/references, etc. that cover use of the two together? Thanks, Scott.

External method question

Hi folks, I've run into a problem using an External Method with reads an mp3 info tag from a *file* and expects a file name argument as such. Then, the function happily calls os.stat on the argument and so on, which all break because the mp3 file is actually an object in a zope folder and not something living in the file system. Is there an easy way to modify the function to operate on a zope file object? I'm using the python snippet I found here: https://sourceforge.net/snippet/download.php?type=snippet&id=100048 I've also looked at the audio object, but it seems that I would have to re-upload all mp3's in order to have properties added, right? newbie auth advice.

This is probably a newbie question but I have read lots of docs and the Spicklemire book and I'm still not sure where to start... I am working on a site for several clients and I would like for clients/users to login with: - username - password - client company name Those three pieces of login information will then be used to determine what information a user sees on their default page and where they can go on the site. I'm not sure if I should be looking at LoginManager, exUserFolder, SimpleUserFolder, CoreSessionTracking, or possibly even CMF. Most of the site content will be pulled from a Postgres database. I would appreciate advice from experienced Zopers. I would like to take whatever path is simplest and also likely to be supported in later versions of Zope. I get the feeling that there are many ways to do what I am trying to accomplish...perhaps too many and that is why I am confused. ImportError with unlrelated and obsolete module

I think some time in the past the transactions must have got tangled. ZSQLMethods has nothing to do with PTKBase. When I try to access any advanced tab from an ZQLMethod I get the following error. (PTKBase is no longer installed and I have to need to install it) <p> Error type: ImportError<br> Error value: No module named PTKBase </p> </p> </BODY></HTML>  Can I reinstall/clear/something ZQLMethods or something? I've had these kind of problems before and they suck.

How to store variables in one session

Hello, I want to write an application which builds a SQL query after answering a set of questions which were presented on several HTML pages in some forms. At first I've thought that I could store the answers in the REQUEST object but I found out that this object does not store values of variables over several requests. Thus I need a way to store some variables over a certain number of user interactions. In the Zope Developers Guide I found something about "ZODB Persistent Components" (Chapter 4) but first I do not understand how to do this with dtml and second I'm really unsure whether this is the right method for my application. I would like to know what is the best way to store some values temporarily in one user session. Kind regards Andreas.
