I'm pretty sure that there is software for Solaris that will do the same sort of thing for volume of filesystem snapshots; I think a company called StorageTek has software that does this in conjunction with Veritas Volume Management software... The setup I have now seems to be working... It's a cron job running early each morning, using rsync to duplicate the entire Zope tree onto another machine. This might seem a little excessive, but keep in mind that rsync only does diffs, not entire copies. Also, there is a different backup for each day of the week. So at any given time, I have seven complete backups of my entire Zope directory. Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns brings in the ringers for his baseball team: "Three misfortunes, that's possible. Seven misfortunates, there's an outside chance. Redirect Console Output

Hi Folks A few questions - a) I run zope on a remote server, and I would like to redirect it's console output to a log file. The standard "start [options] 2>&1 > console.log &" Doesn't work. Do I have to muck with the source of Z2.py? b) Has anyone experienced stability problems with the current version 2.5.1 (binary release, linux). I've managed to have webdav problems and ftp server crashes. I've also tried with locally compiled Python 2.1.3 and the source release of 2.5.1. Would Running an earlier version mean it's more stable? I'm using RedHat 6.1. Thanks -jim

making a string html safe

Hi. I'm trying to html quote a zope object's ID, so that I can have spaces within it without erroring out. Clearly Zope's code handles this, as you can create objects with spaces in their IDs etc... Where does this get done? A glance at OFS/Folder.py yields no constructor (only class initializer). Where does that take place in zope's inheritance hierarchy? Failing all of that, are there any python standard library functions that can handle this, or anything in zope? cgi.escape (which is called by the html_quote in the DocumentTemplate module) doesn't do this completely... ZCatalog Index: bobobase_modification_time, Zope251/Linux

Hi! I have implemented some catalog aware ZClasses and reindex the objects after property change with: <dtml-call reindex_object>. The catalog index is up to date, but not the bobobase_modification_time. This index field is always one "reindex-step" behind. I have read about that on this list some time ago but can't find the posting. Is it possible to index the last valid modification time? Juergen

Double precondition with PDF files

hi i'm experiencing a problem with preconditions. í use the precondition of files to track the downloading of these. if i upload ppt's or doc's there aren't any problems. when i download i get one line in my logfile. if i download a pdf then the log shows 2 entries. to judge from the time the first is when the download starts an the secon when it ends. anybod got an idea on why this is happening? oh...zope 2.4.0 & python 2.1.1 (I know it's old! but updating that is difficult) thanx for the help! oliver erlewein

I am trying to copy/paste some Channels from my portals folder to a different folder named allchannels. I will do the same for other folders containig channels in order to have a folder containig all the channels. How could I use index.html for default

Hello, Is there any way to setup index.html for default instead of index_html? If I use name's template without the extension (.html), Dreamweaver and Amaya (html editors) has considered this files as text file, so I have to rename this file for edit them. This is why that i want to use index.html. Is there any reason that I should not use extension? -- Marco Catunda

default permissions on CMF content?

Hi, I'm creating a Zope site with Plone 0.99. I want news items added in the "Management" folder to be readable only by managers, and "Public" news items to be readable by everyone. I've fixed the permissions on the management folder, but I have two problems: 1. New News Items always get the "Viewable by Anaonymous" security permission. How can I turn that off? 2. How can I filter search results to display only documents which the current user can view? --Noel

sequence- variables

How can I use the sequence variables for something other than rendering? I can do a <dtml-var sequence-number> and it will render the current sequence number just fine, but if I do a <dtml-if "sequence-number == numberVariable"> it barfs. It also barfs if I try to assign it to another variable. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Rick
