If I add MaxMs minimal-product to lib/python/Products startup fails in an odd way: Traceback (most recent call last): File "Zope-2.5.1-linux2-x86/z2.py", line 476, in ? zdaemon.run(sys.argv, os.path.join(CLIENT_HOME, Zpid)) NameError: name 'CLIENT_HOME' is not defined If I set CLIENT_HOME to "var" and try again, the next missing identifier is SOFTWARE_HOME. And on it goes. All those identifiers are supposed to be defined in ZServer, but they aren't, or so it seems. The source for the Minimal-Product looks okay. What's more, this bummer also happens if I change the FTP_PORT from 8021 to 8121. To me it looks as if any change in .py-code to the standard package causes a re-compile that fails. I'm using Zope 2.5.1 on Linux and the python-interpreter that comes with it. Ideas, anyone? Zope Integrated Library System

Zope folks, I have been a python programmer for about as long as I have been a librarian, which is seven years. I consult with a large metropolitan library regarding their automated systems. I recently began the planning stages of taking over as the sole librarian at a local church and at a very small high school. I am familiar with the Integrated Library System (ILS) products from most of the major vendors, so I am also familiar with their prices and problems. I began looking for an Open Source option for my new libraries (see http://www.oss4lib.org) There are only a few viable options. Koha is a Perl/MySql system currently used in several New Zealand public libraries. There are two SourceForge projects that have semi-working catalog and circulation systems: OpenBiblio and PhpMyLibrary, both using PHP/MySql. Judging from Slashdot (http://slashdot.org/askslashdot/00/08/22/2040245.shtml) very few programmers have an appreciation for the complexity of an ILS. Zope has been identified by the library community as a tool for patron portals (see http://www.oss4lib.org) but I can't find any mention of a Zope-based ILS, maybe because Zope programmers do appreciate the complexities of metadata and dealing with the MARC format. All of that was prelude to this: Zope seems like the ideal platform for an ILS. I am more of a Zope integrator than a Zope developer, but it seems like an ILS in Zope would be less complicated and more flexible than a similar program using another framework. OCLC has a MARC to Dublin Core translator (http://alcme.oclc.org/marc2dc/index.html) I assume that something like this could be used to populate catalog records and possibly even holdings records (there is a MARC format for Holdings Information). What are your thoughts? I have no experience designing such a large system, but I would much rather use a Zope-based ILS than any of the current Open Source offerings. Class with a File as a Attribute/Property

Hello: This is my first attempt at creating a Zope product so I'm trying to figure out a thousand things at once... I would like to create a product class that has a File object as a class attribute. Something to the effect: Class foo: _file = None _anotherFile = None setFile( self, file ): "Sets the file" _file = file getFile( self ): "Returns the file as a File object" return _file setAnotherFile( self, file ): "Sets the file" self._anotherFile = file getAnotherFile( self ): "Returns the file as a File object" return self._anotherFile I'm not sure where to start. I've looked through Image.py to get some insight. I don't want to create my own File class, and I don't want to subclass an existing File class either. Am I basically on the right track? I haven't found any good reading on this topic... So I'm scouring source code (that I don't really understand yet). I appreciate any help and any ropes... Flailing, Damon.

windows->linux migration

Hi, I am setting up a Zope/CMF based intranet on Windows 2000 and wish to be able to migrate to Linux in the future. I am trying to get an idea of what is required. Can one simply copy the zope database file into a zope install on linux (with same versions of everything of course)? Do files in the zope install directory need to be copied as well? I noticed (I am new to CMF) that many CMF things are referenced off of the file system instead of the ZODB which make me think I will need to at least copy some files over. variables set by dtml-let are only in the namespace in between the dtml-let tags. When you close the tag, the variables are removed. Strange error when accessing Zope

After some pause, I wanted to work on my little Zope project again. In the meantime, two things have happened to the machine on which the server is running: 1) The IP address was changed. 2) The machine was rebooted. Generations of websites

I'm considering managing a site, currently 23K files and 1K directories, with Zope. I've perused various Zope resources, among them the Zope Book and sundry How-Tos, but have yet to find clear answers to a couple of salient questions. My hope is that I can get some good answers, or at least some good leads to good answers, by writing to this list. The first and most pressing question: suppose I implement the site using Zope, particularly page templates and DTML. Supposing I need to retreat, then, how can I return to my directory-and-file based site? That is, Zope stores the site as objects in a database; how can I write those objects back to files and directories? Is there an established mechanism for this? Granted, I can whip up some scripts to replace, e.g., <dtml-var standard_html_header> with the standard header, in all files, but.... I'm asking if there is some way to use Zope or a utility to write out the entire site _as it would be served to a visitor_, that is, with all DTML and page template logic replaced. The second, less pressing but still vital question: how can Zope be used in such a way as to preserve the existing URL targets?
