problem importing .zexp file

Hi All, I am trying to import a .zexp file onto a zope install (2.5.1) from an old install which was running 2.3.2. When I try an import I get the following error Error Type: ImportError Error Value: No module named PythonMethod.PythonMethod with this traceback... File Modified time not preserved/Dreamweaver synchronize issues

Hello. I'm evaluating Zope for use as our department's web server. Preferably, I'd like Zope to be the only server, but a seemingly-insignificant issue has made that prospect unlikely. I currently have a test Zope server running on a Win2k machine. The version numbers follow: Zope Version (Zope 2.5.1 (binary release, python 2.1, win32-x86), python 2.1.3, win32) Python Version 2.1.3 (#35, Apr 8 2002, 17:47:50) [MSC 32 bit (Intel)] When our web designer uses Dreamweaver to update the web site, she typically has it upload the entire site and Dreamweaver uses the file modification time to determine which files should be replaced and which should be left alone. Unfortunately, when you upload a file via WebDAV or FTP, the "last modified" time gets changed to the Zope server's time. Which prompts the following questions: 1) Is there away to get Zope to emulate the standard behavior of FTP/WebDAV services without delving into the source code? 2) Ok, where do I look in the source code? 3) Can this behavior be an option in a future version of Zope? Secondly, there seems to be some issue with how Zope FTP/WebDav reports the file modification time. Using Windows' WebFolders WebDAV interface shows the modification times as the same time zone as the machine the Zope server is running (PST). But with Dreamweaver's WebDAV and other FTP clients add 7 hours to the modification time. Yes, this puts it in GMT/UTC, which is of course the proper way to store such information, but somehow the clients see it as the local time zone + 7 hours. Meanwhile, the same clients translate the time zone just fine with other standard FTP/WebDAV servers. Is this a bug? Both of these issues make our webmaster very cranky. If she can't determine which copy of many copies is the most recently modified, she must rely on memory to figure out which of the 1,200 files needs updating. If we can't transition gradually from a standard WebDav/FTP site management to some spiffy site management system in Zope, then chances are we won't use Zope at all. While I'd prefer to do web application development with Zope, I won't be the primary person doing the development, so this "minor" inconvenience makes Zope extremely hard to sell. Thanks Dieter but I found it. For reasons I have yet to figure out, when I scp'ed the entire directory tree from box 1 to box 2 the Deals __init__.py file did not make the trip. I don't even know how I caught it but just looking at all of the permissions and everything within the directory I noted the missing file. Funny how the simple things can confound you. DTML and ISO-8859-1

Hi all... I'm trying to pass a variable from an text field in a DTMLFile to a python method.It works as expected, except if i insert chars with an ascii code bigger than 127. For example, if i insert the string "execução" (i hope you see it right), i get the string "execu\xe7\xe3o". I've already set the meta tag in the dtml file to accept charset iso-8859-1, and i've even changed the encoding variable from the site.py file at \bin\lib\. It's crucial that i get the string as inserted, because i'm using it in an sql query. Can anyone please tell me how to solve this problem??? Thanks Gil

Data-Aware Folder

I am a fairly new to Zope so I apologize for my naiveté. I have a need for the Data-Aware Folder product described below. I did not find any existing product that implements such functionality. I decided to run an idea past the Zope community to see if it makes sense and if anything like that has been already developed. I appreciate any feedback. Problem: If all our data is stored in ZODB then I can say, for example, http://localhost/Org/ENRON/Address/get and get a list of all addresses for ENRON (billing, shipping, etc). http://localhost/Org/ENRON/Contact/Smith/Address/get would give me an address of Smith from ENRON. Everything is pretty easy. We can manipulate our data via ZMI or build custom GUI to do it. We can use Zope's features like an access-control, cataloging, etc. Now let's say that some data is stored in DBMS or other place outside the ZODB. We know how to get it (e.g. ZSQL) but Zope mechanics would not work anymore. I would have to say http://localhost/Org/Address/get?org_id=ENRON or http://localhost/Org/Contact/Address/get?org_id=ENRON&contact_id=Smith since "ENRON" and "Smith" are now just the values in the database. Which is not bad except I loose many of Zope's nice features: acquisition for once. It would be nice to have a 'Data-Aware Folder' that gets its content from both Zope and an outside source and merges them together. This folder would call a 'getter' method to get a list of objects. Then it would see if it contains some 'RecordFolders' and merges objects data from the list with information from the RecordFolder. This way I would be able to create a RecordFolder "ENRON" put an ENRON logo there (or a permission folder, or anything else) and the data-aware folder will get additional ENRON information (if needed) from the DBMS and mix it with the information stored in Zope. For example, I need to display information about a company with it's addresses and a list of contacts from the database. I have a ZPT in http://localhost/Org to do that. For ENRON I would like to display the same information but arranged differently (with "WATCH OUT!" signs all over). It would be logical to create a Folder ENRON with a specific ZPT in it that handles the difference. So now http://localhost/Org/ENRON looks different from http://localhost/Org/ACME where both ENRON and ACME come from the database. The first step would be to correctly resolve paths like http://Org/ENRON/Contact/Smith/Address which may involve calling Org.get(org_id=ENRON).Contact(contact_id=Smith).Address or Org.Contact.Address(org_id=ENRON, contact_id=Smith) depending on situation. The next step would be merging records returned by the "getter" with the folder context so I can say http://Org/ENRON/Contact/Smith/picture and obtain either picture of Smith (stored in Zope in Contact/Smith) or a placeholder picture from Contact. So my question is: does a Data-Aware Folder idea make sense or I overlooked some Zopish way to address the described issues? Thanks, Igor

Large ZODB vs SQL + cataloging issues

Hi I am looking to build a system to hold 100s of sites, each of which holds several catalogues (as in on-line shopping, not ZCatalogs). How large can ZODB realistically go? At which point would it make more sense to hold data in a n RDBMS and use sql from Zope instead? Also, a related note is: If I have 100 online shops running from my Zope isntance, and one if them is a thousand times bigger than the others, how will the ZCataloging and general traffic on the big site affect the others? I'd like to just use the ZODB, but I have to convince some people that it will perform. Any case studies, tests, benchmarks, articles, etc would be very useful. TIA, Felix.

updating LDAPserver from python script

Hi all, I am trying to access openLDAP server from a python script inside CMF site of Zope. I have python-ldap module installed on a linux machine. My final intention is to Add an LDAP entry in to LDAP server. Following code i have written in a python script just to get started by connecting to LDAP server and accessing the existing contents. In that the solution was to add a new directory in Products folder of Zope.
