Trailing spaces in ids?

Since Zope doesn't allow spaces in object ids (a good thing), how come when I paste an object id into the interface, it allows a trailing space and incorporates it into the object's id? I've inserted DTML Documents, CMF Sites, MailHosts, RDF Summaries -- all manner of objects with spaces at the end and Zope accepts them just fine. Try it yourself! It gives interesting errors when you try to view those objects, but they do exist. Shouldn't the ZODB raise an error when _setObject gets called? If that's a hard change, then at least have the ZMI not strip the space off when building the list of objects in a folder. This is tough enough to debug without Zope conspiring against me! Icons not set right after Subclassing

Hello, I have a Folderish Class "GenericHost". I then have some specializations of this host, declared as SpecialHost(GenericHost): (Differences here) SpecialHost2(GenericHost): (Differences) I then declare them in __init__ as follows: context.registerClass( Hosts.SpecialHost, constructors = (Hosts.addSpecialHostForm, Hosts.manage_addSpecialHost), icon = 'icons/SpecialHost.gif' ) context.registerClass( Hosts.SpecialHost2, constructors = (Hosts.addSpecialHost2Form, Hosts.manage_addSpecialHost2), icon = 'icons/SpecialHost2.gif' ) GenericHost is never registered. However, the icon directive is ignored; they all get a plain folder icon. When I do register GenericHost and give it its own icon, then everything then gets the GenericHost icon. Otherwise, everything works as expected. I've tried the misc_ trick, but I can't get it to work. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? It seems like a waste to repeat all of the code just for the icons. TIA, VL

uploading, overwriting, and editing file (DTML Document)

Good-day All: I would like to delegate certain users rights to upload an html file (to become a DTML Document), overwriting an existing file of same name and then run a script to edit the file, substituting dtml tags for lines at beginning and end of file. I am confused as to the best way to go about it. I can have them upload a DTMLDocument as a Zope object (using a form and DTML method, but cannot overwrite an already existing object of same name and don't know how to access the object to edit it as needed. My guess is that I should write an external script to do the editing, but am unsure of whether or not to upload to local file system instead of Zope object and how to access file system files as DTML Documents. I have reviewed the FAQ on product LocalFS, but am unsure if I need it, or if displaying DTML Documents stored in file system is the way to go. Any advice would be appreciated. Tom

Which for small table: ZODB, TinyTable, Gadfly, MySQL?

Hi, I've got a static table of 60 rows consisting of: firstname, lastname, department, email, telephone and I'd like to display this list in a table that can be sorted by clicking on the column headings. Considering the size, what would be the 'best practices' way of doing this? a) creating objects and searching through ZODB, b) TinyTablePlus product c) Gadfly database d) MySQL database (seems like overkill) e) something else?? IE and cookies

Hi all, I'm running into a problem with CookieUserFolder which will probably apply to cookies in general, in which Internet Explorer and Konquerer are apparently having problems, while Netscape and Mozilla don't. This rings a bell about a difference in the handling of cookies. I remember a recommendation that cookie-based login be done from a top-level folder to avoid problems with IE, but now I can't find it, despite quite a bit of searching -- I'm not using the right keywords or something. Does anyone remember where I might find this information? Best Class for Persistent, Ordered List

I want the semantics of python lists with persistence; in particular, I want to be sure that if I put objects in the list I will later get them out in the same order. I have been using PersistentList, borrowed from somewhere, that is basically a regular list with a little persistence machinery tickling added. I notice that there are BTree classes and related set classes, in particular OOSet. Does anyone know if that preserves order? From the name and the test suite it looks as if it doesn't, even though it has sequence semantics. I've looked at the c source only enough to see the answer is not immediately obvious there! So will OOSet do what I want? If not, is something else appropriate? Thanks.

Members can edit visible items of other members

I'm not sure if the problem is with the new workflow setup or what? I thought that at some point the workflow was changed so that items become visible when first created. Is anyone running a Zope with the workflow creating visible items as the default? I'm finding that other logged in users can edit visible items. I'm using Zope 2.5.1 and cmf 1.2 and cmfzen 0.0.1. How about a suggestion for something for me to try. In the past I tried working with the workflow object, but ran into linux/windows problems trying to import the current example at the time. Now I'm back to check out Zope again and give it one more go around. Virtual PC: Running Linux and Zope in a virtual PC

Hi, besides all the else testing, I am now testing Connectix's VirtualPC. So far I've read quite good reviews and heard about success with running Linux as a virtual computer in Windows. I will be soon testing how it feels to run Linux and Windows same time and do development on both. Basicly it could be possible to even run multiple virtual computers and practise complicated ZEO-setups in one single computer. Why am I doing this? Out of curiosity - and also because I am selling my Linux box. Running VC could be an option for doing dualbooting. Of course there are the ups and downs, but I have an itch that this could be a good way for some Zope developers to do new things. Any thougths or ideas for what to test and play? -huima
