Hi Ciji... A few notes: 1. I've moved this message to the zope(a)zope.org list. What does it have to do with CMF afterall? Please use the correct list in future.If you don't know what the correct list is, then use zope(a)zope.org 2. All the lists are @zope.org. Hi, I had a similar problem yesterday and Chris Kratz gave me the following answer that works: Hi Larry, There is probably a cleaner way to do it, but we use dtml-if's to determine whether to insert a string or a null. Weird intermittent error with BTreeFolder

Hi, Every so often, if I go to a URL like: http://x.com/btreefolder/fileobject I get this weird error: Error Type: NotFound Error Value: The object at http://x.com/btreefolder has an empty or missing docstring. Objects must have a docstring to be published. Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/zope/2.5.1_base/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 89, in publish File /usr/local/zope/2.5.1_base/lib/python/ZPublisher/BaseRequest.py, line 320, in traverse File /usr/local/zope/2.5.1_base/lib/python/ZPublisher/HTTPResponse.py, line 502, in debugError ...where btreefolder is a version 0.2 BtreeFolder and fileobject is a normal Zope 2.5.1 File object. The amazingly frustrating thing is that if I refresh the URL, things work exactly as I expect :-( Any ideas?! cheers, Chris

python script parameters

hi, I'm having problems with passing a number of parameters to a python script called by XML-RPC. I want some of the parameters to be optional, and passed as empty strings. I have tried to do this by setting default values as empty quoted strings. But playing around even with setting non-empty default values in a list of params doesn't seem to work. e.g. if I set the parameter list of the method as: a, b="aardvark" and then test the script, if I leave b empty, the default aardvark is assumed. but if I switch the order round, and set the param list as: b="aardvark", a and do the same, the script breaks with the error 'the parameter b was ommited from request. could anyone tell me how I do this: i.e. have a parameter list with some values set with defaults, not just the last one? Newbie: ZClasses

I have begun creating some products based on ZClasses. Can anyone tell me how I can programmatically create new instances of these products and add them to a folder, rather than create them one by one via the TTW interface? ZODB performance issues

Hello, We have a script that does a'database import' into the ZODB. This script iterates through a series of records (currently in text files) and creates corresponding Zope objects. We can do small (<100) imports relatively well, but on a large import (1000+) the Zope process balloons in size and eventually becomes unresponsive. Sending a SIGHUP to Zope restores normal functionality and performance, and the created objects all seem to work fine. However, we don't want to have to restart Zope every time we do an import. My suspicion, based on the above evidence, is that the ZODB caching mechanism is to blame for the slowdown. Can anybody confirm this, or offer an alternate explanation? And, if caching is the culprit, is there a way to programmatically turn off caching for the duration of a script run? Thanks, VanL
