problem with python-ldap and ZLDAP in scripts

Hi, I'm working on simple frontend for managing some user information in LDAP using Zope (Plone exactly). In this fronted different ousers should be able do bind to my LDAP server using different dn and creditentials. The only way to do it seems to be writing a set of python scripts. I wrote such scripts in python and they work's fine. But uder Zope there is a problem. I can't in any way bind to ldap server. All tries effect in hanging Zope process. Exemplary scripts (used as Zope External Method): def ldap_connection(): try: import ldap l1 = ldap.initialize('ldap://ldapserver') l1.simple_bind('cn=user,dc=xxxxx','password') out = 1 except: out = -1 return out Executing simple_bind hangs the Zope process. I supposed that there is a problem with Zope security. Is there any way to use python-ldap under zope? Similar problem is in LDAP Connection object (from latest ZopeLDAP product). Everything works fine until I try some its "low level" methods (such as manage_close()). Effect: killed zope server process. Of course all creds for LDAP connection are correct and LDAP server is accessible (and working). The system is Debian with Zope-2.6.2-2, python2.2-ldap-1.9.999.pre13-1 and zope-ldap-1.1.0-3. creating objects in dtml?

I have a python class which I've set up as a zope product and which shows up as such. Now, products installed this way don't show up on menus, so I've more or less followed the instructions and created a product with a zclass which subclasses the installed python product and, sure enough, this zclass shows up on menus. The next step was to create a folder with a dtml page and an instance of the zclass in it, and use the instance of the zclass in the dtml page, and that works. Nonetheless, ultimately, that doesn't seem to be what I want. Unless I'm missing something, that creates a single instance (object) of the class for good and all. I see print statements from the constructor the first time I ever bring the page up; afterwards, the object is still there, but it isn't being created. The systems seems to be saving it. What I really need is for a user to open a dtml page and create (his/her) object in doing so, and then use it. I assume it's possible to do that in dtml but I don't see any descriptions of how to do it. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who knows how this is done.

imagemap zpt

Hello all, I have a zpt question: i have a imagemap, with several links to other images. And this moment (i'm busy with migrating my website from pure html to zope) every image have his own html pages (just because the layout), a little bit overkilled i think. Somehow i have the feeling that zpt can handle this very easy. I found several postings on the mailinglist which are more or less related to my question, but didn't find a solution :( -- m. vr. gr. long response times?

Hey All! I've developed an alumni directory application. This directory is accessed through a search interface, and pulls the data from ldap. LDAP can't do an offset+limit to return a subset of the results, so I'm returning all results and storing them in request.SESSION. The results are display 10 / page, with links to move forward and back. The responsiveness is fine if there are few results (< 8 seconds for < 100 results). However if the set is large ( > 100), response time grows enormously. One search I do that returns 402 results takes about 30 seconds! I find this strange, because performing the search and rendering the entire page (template and all) takes < 5 seconds. Any ideas why it is taking so long? It seems there is some sort of house-cleaning being done after the page is rendered and before it is sent to the browser. Thanks, Andy
