Hi Shane, I'm a bit interested in what you meen by "apply version control to your objects". How would this work? DBTab, ZEO and DirectoryStorage

Hi, sent this to the dirstorage-list but no one had tried this combination yet, so I am trying at zope(a)zope.org instead. I am about to try to replace LocalFS with DirectoryStorage for an, eventually, huge number of files and documents uploaded to our Zope app. LocalFS does not conceptually work over ZEO, so I am switching to use DirectoryStorage and store everything in the ZODB instead. I am planning on using DBTab with DirectoryStorage and ZEO. Are there any problems that I should be aware of? Regarding configuration, DBTab has support for custom storages not known to it but I need help infiguring out how to configure DBTab for using DirectoryStorage Any help is appreciated, /dario - -------------------------------------------------------------------- Dario Lopez-Kästen, IT Systems & Services Chalmers University of Tech.

Is there an example of something like that lying around > somewhere? Take a look at the code behind the "Add" pick list in the ZMI. That has a number of examples. And please keep the discussion on the list. On this list, pressing "reply" will only address your reply to one person, not the whole list. Unless your mail client has a "reply to list" option, the correct way to maintain a discussion on this list is "reply to all". That may seem bizarre, but it's how Mailman works (by default) and if you spend any time on Python lists, you'll need to learn to live with it. :-) HTH, Dylan

Running ZEO on a single server -- advisable? Why?

But I'm currently setting up some new boxen and would like to know the rationale for using ZEO on them. Do you run ZEO on standalone boxes? What are the advantages? What are the disadvantages? You can also use COM on windows to talk to excel. You will need to have excel installed on your windows server. Migration Strategy

We're moving some content from Zope 2.6 to 2.6.2, and I'm wondering what the best way to do this would be. In the fantasy world that is my mind, I think I'd be looking for a way to safely lock the ZODB in the 2.6 instance, so we can migrate to 2.6.2 while still serving (unchangeable) content from 2.6. creating objects in dtml?

I have a python class which I've set up as a zope product and which shows up as such. Now, products installed this way don't show up on menus, so I've more or less followed the instructions and created a product with a zclass which subclasses the installed python product and, sure enough, this zclass shows up on menus. The next step was to create a folder with a dtml page and an instance of the zclass in it, and use the instance of the zclass in the dtml page, and that works. Nonetheless, ultimately, that doesn't seem to be what I want. Unless I'm missing something, that creates a single instance (object) of the class for good and all. I see print statements from the constructor the first time I ever bring the page up; afterwards, the object is still there, but it isn't being created. The systems seems to be saving it. What I really need is for a user to open a dtml page and create (his/her) object in doing so, and then use it. I assume it's possible to do that in dtml but I don't see any descriptions of how to do it. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who knows how this is done.

Zope and attribute tag question

Good day, Our company has been using a ZOPE driven website for over a year now ( http://www.hr.ucdavis.edu/Emp/All <http://www.hr.ucdavis.edu/Emp/All> ) but recently switched to a database driven page that you can see at the enclosed link. My question is pretty simple: I have submitted some attribute tags to the website that only defined some color tags to the table. I have been told that because this page is "database driven", the changes cannot take effect. This seems absolutely ridiculous to me and totally unsupported by logic.
