Indexing msword docs in ZCatalog

Hi, I've got a ZCatalog that takes care of indexing all my pages so that I can use a search feature on my web page. The page also contains a DocumentLibrary so that an administrator can upload documents onto the page and then refresh the catalog. I'm managing to upload succesfully pdf, text and msword documents but am having a problem with the indexing of the msword docs.... as far as I know the DocumentFiles added to the DocumentLibrary supports full text searchability for msword docs. Am I missing something? do I need to convert the docs in any way before uploading for them to be catalogued succesfully? Cheers Ruth

xmlrpc and charsets

I'm stuck hacking the xmlrpc stuff. I can't understand the charset rules with xmlrpc in the Zope implementation. Why doesn't it provide unicode string because, the server side is not supposed to know (and has no way to know AFAIK) the charset of the client side. Should that charset be provided explicitely in the xmlrpc request to the server ? Sometimes I feel to have a dead brain when dealing with Unicode/charsets stuffs :o) Thanks for any enlightenments. --Gilles

Document managemet

I want to setup a site use Plone for my company for document management purpose. My company device in to 5 departments and only memper in this department can access the doccument. could you tell me how can I do? should I create 5 folder with user folder or create more 5 role and grand the member with their role? Thank you.

XML RPC and umlaute

I would like to send back from a xml-rpc python server german umlaute(ä,ö, ü, ..) inside a list to Zope but I always get a parser error(it's obviously not a Zope problem). I've read that I can send back unicode encoded strings but how do I do it? Thanks.

Zope 2.6.2 / Fscounter 1.3.4

hi , i'm running Zope 2.6.2 and i noticed FSCOUNTER (1.3.4) doesn not work on it . I can assume because a i got a Zope 2.6.1 working on the same machine to check it and it works on the 2.6.1 but not on 2.6.2 . The problem ? It doesnt want to increase or to modify ( eg : if i try to give it a new value , it does not change anything , it stays as it is ... ) What kind of messages have i got to give you to see it together ? I fyou dont maintain it anymore , who is doing it ? Thanks a lot .

Instantiating Multiple Browser ID Managers

I've got a situation where different sites (within the same Zope 2.6.2 install) have different sessioning needs, and I'd like to be able to set up different browser_id_manager objects to handle the different cases. The 2.6 Zope Book suggests doing this by deleting the root browser_id_manager and instantiating new versions in the most deeply nested containers. Makes sense -- except that I'm unable (with role manager) to delete the root browser_id_manager. (I tried deleting the root session_data_manager first. That worked. But I still wasn't able to delete the root browser_id_manager). Any body got any clues I might follow on this one? How to manage root folder?

Hello, my Zope-Server is not reachable from outside. I use a Apache to rewrite the requests: RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/ www.centershock.net:80/centershock/VirtualHostRoot/$1 [L,P] When I access http://centershock.net/manage I can only manage the folder centershock. How can I access the root folder of the Zope Server? Thanks, Florian

Add an explicit re-write rule to go to /manage without the VirtualHost... Ex: RewriteRule ^/manage(.*) http://localhost:8080/manage$1 [L,P] That should do the trick. Make sure that's before the catchall re-write rule (the one you already have). Thanks for your thoughts. Turned out the easiest fix worked--reboot. I was initially reluctant to do this as we were unsure exactly what services this machine was hosting. We were able to determine that no other live websites were involved and that all other "known" services were running elsewhere, so we took the chance and restarted the box. The web content is now back up. I hate being left in this position with critical info (in this case, a website) running on a box that we don't have the know-how to manage. Nor is there any money to get everything moved elsewhere. Thanks again to those who replied so quickly with things to look at.
