If I could get the following to work, I'd have all the state maintenance I'd ever need. I have a file called bearcl1.py with the lines: class bearcl1: gstr = "a wet bird never flies at night" def getgstr(self): return self.gstr def setgstr( self, InputStr ): self.gstr = InputStr and a file called __init__.py with the lines: from bearcl1 import bearcl1 def initialize(context): """ Register base class """ context.registerBaseClass( both saved in a subdir called: /home/bear/zope/lib/python/Products/bearclxpt1/ and have created a product called bcl1 with a zclass called bzcl1 which subclasses bearcl1 and CatalogAware. Moreover, the class bzcl1 now shows up on my ADD list when constructing web pages so that I can have an object called bz1 of the class bzcl1 and a dtml page in the same folder and the dtml page contain a line like: <dtml-var bz1.getgstr > which looks like it ought to work ( and produce 'a wet biord never flies at night' on the resulting page ) but doesn't. Again, if I could get that much to work I'd basically be home free. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Ted Holden

including a dtml method through a variable

With reference to the usual dtml-var to include a dtml-method in another page. i.e. <dtml-var page_dtml_widget> How is it possible to do this dynamically? Lets say in some pyhton script i execute a line like this: if a: REQUEST.set("widget", "page_dtml_widget1") else: REQUEST.set("widget", "page_dtml_widget2") Later on in the dtml method, how can i use that variable for a dynamic include? <dtml-var widget>... ...Obviously doesnt work, it just prints out the value of the variable. After much head scratching i still cant get around this. Any suggestions anyone?

Generally, variables return values, and you would just keep the same variable name and return different values. If you're not wanting to return values, but return something else, then don't use dtml-var. You'd want to do an eval or something else. printing documentation from zope.org?

This may sound silly, but I'm trying to print documentation (specifically the ZPT reference) from 'The Zope Book' at zope.org, but I only get the first page. Does anyone else have this problem? I started learning DTML, then converted a couple applications to ZPT and I like ZPT - it's nice. I like that I can convert to ZPT on a live site - it intermixes with DTML very well. -----Original Message----- From: Stefan H. Hi Rob, Looks like it is your start script. You should give Zope a IP and port to start up on for the webserver. Look at the code of the z2.py, in the top it has all the of the parameters you need (don't have one in front of me now). It looks like you need to remove the first "&" so it will run in debug mode (so you can see it start from the command line) and add in a "-w 8080" to tell it to start the webserver (-w) on port 8080. (it might be -W :8080). It is all in the z2.py which is in the root of the zope directory. dynamic sort=

Is there a way to do a dynamic sort= on a dtml-in on a list of dictionaries? like: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('sortby', 'firstname')"> <dtml-in "queryname_py" mapped sort=_['sortby']> etc... I've tried _['sortby'], _[sortby], "_['sortby']", and "_[sortby]" and I always get an error. Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks, Rick

Python 2.3.2 and Zope 2.7.0b2?

Hello, I've Python 2.3.2 installed and I try to install Zope 2.7.0b2. But it complains about the Python version. But it says that 2.3 will also work? Will it work or not? downloading and uploading docs for user view on zope site

Hi, I'm using Zope-2.6.2 and am building a web site for our company's major products. One item of functionality I'd like to have is the opportunity of an administrator to be able to upload docs or pdfs which members can then download onto their local machines. Just would like some advice as to which is the best zope add-on to do this ... Cheers Ruth
