Are you by any chance using IE to look at the Windows server, but some other browser to look at the non-windows servers? You could check this notion by making a change, clearing the browser caches, closing ALL copies of the browser (just to be on the safe side) , and then re-opening the browser and checking. It's not clear what you *mean* to have happen in this script... the only line that seems to do anything is this one: > container.REQUEST.set('CurrentDir',directory) Which only re-names the "directory" variable, which I assume was a parameter to the script. It's not clear what purpose this could serve. Perhaps you meant for the generated URL to have something to do with the current user and the directory name passed in. That might be: url = '/'.join([context.REQUEST.URL1,username,directory]) Or something like that. If that doesn't help, maybe you could describe what the script is *supposed* to return. HTH, Dylan

Zope 2.6.2 not responding

Anybody had problems with zope 2.6.2 not responding for a while? Also running ZEO from ZODB 3.1.2. it happened this morning for 20 minutes, then spontaneously resolved itself; same thing appears to be happening now. I've got bigM logging enabled, and I can clearly see that requests are arriving but not being returned. Writing to browser from an external script?

Here's the situation - I have a database that needs to be monitored. By that I mean that I want to "watch" a certain table from a PC, with live updates made when the contents in the database changes. The problem is that the HTML table being created is rather large, so I don't want to retransmit that every time. I want to leave the connection open, and just send a short javascript routine as needed to update the specific cell that has changed. (I've already gotten a trivial prototype of this concept working.) The way I was thinking about doing it is to spawn an external Python script as a separate thread. So, first I send the page with the contents at that moment. Without closing the connection, I issue a blocking read on a pipe. When the process that updates the database completes the transactions, it writes a message to the pipes of all waiting scripts (there could be a dozen or so machines watching this.) Each script then queries the tables for what has changed, builds the JavaScript code and writes that to the browser. (Again, trivial prototype of this concept is working.) Now, this was done from straight Python, using the CGIHTTPServer module as a base. What I'd really like to do is integrate this with Zope. In other words, I want the 'home' page to be a Zope object (DTML template?) that can initiate this external thread. (I'm assuming that it would have to be an external thread because of the need to block on the pipe.) First - the sanity check. Have I lost my mind wanting to do it this way? The common alternative that I usually read about involves sending the command to the browser to auto-refresh periodically. Unfortunately, that means that the entire page would have to be retransmitted every time - and I really don't want to have to do that. It just seems very wasteful to me to have to transmit 1000 times the amount of data necessary to just update (typically) 15-20 bytes. So I guess my biggest question is - how can I send data directly to the browser from an external script? (Can I pass the connection object to that script?) Failing that, is there a way that I can create a DTML template to iteratively call an external script, until the script returns some magic value? As you can see, I'm no expert at Zope, but I'm not one to shy away from doing my own research, either. I'm not asking anyone to do this for me, but a quick pointer as to what I should be reading about would be most appreciated. Oh, and once this is done, would anyone else be interested in seeing this? I don't mind sharing at all. (Just don't laugh...) Thanks in advance, Ken

retrieving a blob stored file from mysql

I am trying to implement a feature on my site where users can upload a file (typically a tif file) for other users to download. I have the upload working fine and the download side works with Linux with Mozilla (my development system) but IE6 won't open the file as if it were a regular link. When you choose "save as" it works but if you choose "open with" to open the file with some kind of image viewer Windows complains that the temporary file does not exist. This is what I'm doing: 1. I link to my python script from my dtml document <a href="get_attachment?attachment_id=&dtml-attachment_id;">&dtml-doc_name;</a> 2. get_attachment result = context.sqlSelAttachmentByID(attachment_id = attachment_id) container.REQUEST.RESPONSE.setHeader('content-type', result[0].type) container.REQUEST.RESPONSE.setHeader('content-disposition', 'attachment;filename=' + result[0].doc_name) #content-disposition can use either: application, inline, or attachment return result[0].attachment I've tried using all 3 of those content-disposition settings with the same results. Persistant Zombies and a sanity check

I use htmldoc to generate pdf documents connecting to Zope via a simple popen2() call in an external procedure which pipes input to htmldoc and grabs output from htmldoc. The htmldoc process remains in the process table as a zombie and remains there until Zope is restarted. To avoid persistant zombies, I'll need to not use the factory function, popen2, and do a bit closer management of the process--that is, the parent will need to iexecute a wait on the child (htmldoc) so that when it completes the child process can die. Am I missing something? -dra

DTML parameter to Python script

Hi, In the following DTML document I am trying to give the parameter 'dtml-sequence-item''to the setDirectory python script. This parameter doesn't return the right value. Instead it returns '<&dtml-sequence-item>'.
