Hi all, As of today, I am no longer a full-time employee of Zope Corporation. Leaving (after almost four years) was a difficult decision for me, but it's the right choice. I am deeply indebted to Zope Corporation for giving me the opportunity to work with the other excellent developers there, from whom I learned almost everything I now know about programming. It was a tremendous honor to work there and I wish ZC continued success. So now I am in the process of starting a business which really has no relation to Zope other than we may use it for some necessary web applications. But as such I will continue to contriubute to Zope; maybe even more now than I was able to while I was a full-time ZC employee. Of course I will continue to be active on maillists and whatnot. timeouts on IE6

I have a zope page which goes off to an external method which can, sometimes, take a long time (minutes). Apparently IE will timeout. My user then does a reload which causes the external method to be re-executed, etc. Any suggestions as to what to do?

where __changed__() method defined ?

Greetings, I'm making a Zope product imitating some sample products. I encountered codes like "self.__changed__(1)", notifying ZODB that this object has changed. I wornder where the method __changed__() defined ? I greped Zope source code under lib/python/, but not found. --- Chihiro Kuraya

Long delay when error occurs in External Method

I find that if my External Method throws an error, Zope will spin for several minutes before it finally presents the error. If there is no error, my script will return immediately. Obviously it's taking me a long time to debug. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Nathaniel

Hi, I have a zope user directory with no Manager permissions (i.e. the admin user is unable to access it). How do I restore the Manager role permissions to this directory? Regards Sheldon Knight

File system operation rollback

I have a Zope product containing several classes. Certain methods of these classes invoke file system operations, almost exclusively deletes and renames. Has anyone developed a good strategy to roll back file system operations in the same way that ZODB and SQL transactions roll back in the event of an error? My file system gets out of sync quite frequently, so I would appreciate any ideas.

sequence.sort from python

Hi All! I am trying to use the sequence.sort function to sort the results from an ldap search (using the LDAPDelegate module from LDAPUserFolder to search ldap). This is in a custom python product, not in the zodb. Since every attribute value returned is a tuple, I can't exactly use sort's standard cmp function (at least it doesn't seem to work for me). I thought I'd try to use a custom comparison function, so I wrote my own to compare the first item in each attribute's tuple. I then called sort: sequence.sort(ldap_results,(('givenName',res_cmp),)) (res_cmp is the custom function) I get an attribute error saying 'None' object has no attribute 'res_cmp'. The traceback (included below) says that the error occurred on line 178 of SortEx.py. This line tried to get the actual function using the current namespace as passed into the sort function. I didn't pass one in, and the default is None. Is there anyway around this? Is there a way to create my own namespace and pass it in? Would it be easiest to delegate the sort to a zodb script? The parent can do with it whatever it wants. Of course, you need to use javascript to make this work. I would be happy with that, myself.
