DLC Solutions is seeking a senior-level software engineer with experience in application development using Zope, Python, and ActionScript. Five or more years experience in systems architecture, database design, and legacy systems integration is required. Experience in medical education or e-learning field is a plus. This hire will be the programming lead for DLC Solution's product development for web-based educational technologies. We are looking for someone to integrate Flash interfaces with our Zope/Python/DTML-based learning management system, as well as continue to develop our core learning management system built using Zope/Python/DTML. Hi all - We're planning on releasing a Zope 2.6.1 b1 today, and I wanted to give the dev folks a heads-up and let people know the plan for getting to 2.6.1 final. The release today will contain some ZODB / ZEO fixes as well as the datetime fix and some other fixes added since 2.6.0. We will be having a "bug day" next Tuesday, and the goal will be that those fixes will also go into the Zope-2_6-branch to be included in a 2.6.1 beta 2 to be release hopefully around the end of next week. Assuming there are no issues with the b2 release, we'll plan on making it final a week or so after that for a late xmas present :) This schedule should also provide enough time for the valiant volunteers working on the 2.6.1 version of the Zope Book to finalize things for the release. I am looking to see what the range and level of professional zope consultancy/support is in UK, if any. If anyone knows names and contact addresses of any firms that offer these sort of services could you let me know. Also are there any recruitment websites where you could look for UK programmers with zope/python experience? On a more general note, what is the uptake and usage of zope like in the UK? From what I can tell the most enthusiastic take-up has been in Germany. Thanks Dennis. I dunno whether I'd call it simpler, but it would definitely be useful in some cases. We're handling something similar, most of our files are in the 60-80Mb range and in varying formats from plain text to MS-Word to PDF. We're just getting into the testing phases now so I'm not certain if the performance will be noticeable different under load or not but it's food for thought at least. We're storing the files on the filesystem with an ExtFile type Product and using TextIndexNG2 to index the fulltext of the documents into Zope. The theory being that we can minimize the bloat to the ZODB by only storing the data needed for the searches in the ZODB and keeping the actual file contents out on the file system. Someone with a better working knowledge of Zope might be able to give you a theoretical guestimate on the performance differences, if any, of storing/serving large objects internally vs externally.
